At last! UE Wins the UAAP Juniors Division Overall Championship!
ALL HAIL UE, PRINCE OF THE UAAP!
For the first time in the University's history, UE earned the Overall Championship in the Juniors Division of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, with five of our junior teams—comprised by students of the Secondary Laboratory School — winning First Place in their respective tournaments.
UE's junior Red Dragons, boys' and girls' teams alike, won the First Place in their UAAP volleyball tournaments. Freshman Michael Reyes and 3rd-year student Giza Yumang were heralded as the Most Valuable Player for the boys' and girls' division, respectively. MVP Yumang, Ist-year students Jessica Reyes, Lorielyn Longalong, Shervie Naval, Jillen Mijares, Maureen Martinez and Jessica Paron; 3rd-year students Aiko Mago, Jaimie Jim Pereabras and Shiela May Banawa; and 4th-year students Czarina Mitra, Joy Ann Ibuyan, Mary Ann Balmaceda, Ampy Montinola, Mary Kristel Rosale and Nerissa Cabrera comprise the girls' volleyball team. With MVP Reyes in the boys' volleyball team are Ist-year students Ramon Acaya, Brian Benavente, Sherwin Dacalay, Dan Mar Gabriel, Charles Jones, John Joseph Sandoval and Michael Reyes; sophomore Mark Geocel Ang, 3rd-year students Vincent Boyles, Kevin Manahan, Dominic James Pacquitan and Karl Pandacan, and 4th-year student Krish John Pantaleon. Coaches Rodrigo Roque and Jesus Anselmo Reyes handled the boys' and girls' teams, respectively.

The UE Junior Woodpushers, for their part, garnered a total of 36.0 points to capture the juniors' chess crown for the fourth straight year. Nelson I. Mariano III, a 3rd-year student, was also adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the competition. He was also heralded as Athlete of the Year for the Juniors Division during the closing ceremonies of Season 68 held at Adamson University last March 7, 2006. (More on page 12.) Nelson's uncle, Coach Harold Mariano, trains the Woodpushers. Other team members include freshmen Paolo Bersamina and Godwina Mamporte; sophomore Kevin Manuta; juniors Mersky Peque and Adrian Perez; and seniors Joshua Bersamina, Jaroz Felipe, Joshua Lalap and Aices Salvador.

The Little Mermaids also proved their mettle by coming out first in swimming. This team of winning swimmers is composed of sophomore Jeanina Molina; juniors Joanna Bagat, Annaliza Catacutan, Alexis Dionisio, Jesusa Infante, Lea Navato, Hazel Reyes, Charmagne Sumalde and Rowena Uddin; and senior Fatima Jaitulla, under the mentorship of Coach Jaime Garalde. |

Likewise, the Red Tablenetters, under the tutelage of Coach Rogelio Ponte Jr., were proclaimed Champion in table tennis, with SLS senior Jayson Mesias as the MVP. Joining him in the team were freshmen Fritz Mendoza, Keeyo Mangulabnan, Mariz Miclat and Paulesus Vendivel; sophomore Franza Mendoza; junior Beverly Villar; and seniors Mark Tariaga and Adrian Pablo. |
Also contributing to the First Place finish of the school are the Taekwondo Team, which were ranked 3rd Place; the Boys' Swimming Team, also 3rd Place; and the Athletics Team, 4th Place.
The corresponding points of the victories garnered the UE Juniors a total of 101 points —ahead of 2nd Placer University of Santo Tomas and 3rd Placer Ateneo de Manila University.
