UE College of Engineering-Caloocan Civil Engineering Professor Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr. has been awarded as Best Presenter during the oral presentation segment of the 2021 TRAC Multi-Disciplinary Research Congress with the theme \u201cTranslating Research into Action and Concept\u201d held via Zoom last June 18 to 19, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engr. Leron\u2014a December 2012 Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering graduate of UE CEng\u2019g Caloocan and the Business Manager of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers\u2019 (PICE) North Metro Manila Chapter\u2014presented the research titled \u201cUnreinforced Permeable Concrete Pavement with Re-Activated Carbon Filtration Layer for Floodwater as a Low Impact Development (L.I.D.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research was awarded as Best Paper during the oral presentation of the Research Congress. It was co-authored by Engr. John Rei M. Gomez, who is likewise a UE CEng\u2019g Caloocan CE Faculty Member, and Engr. Leron\u2019s former student advisees Lorrenz Icely D. Ferrer, Dave A. Ramos Jr., Michael Angelo V. Ramos and Sean Drexxtler S. Reyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their research is about the investigation of the effect of permeable concrete pavement as a low-impact development (LID) in floodwater samples with the incorporation of activated carbon. They designed a prototype of a permeable concrete pavement with an activated carbon (AC) filtration layer. The AC is made up of sun-dried and shredded coconut shells and husks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study aims to increase the surface drainage system for floodwater, decrease the volume of floods and to change the properties of floodwater to a preferable condition before reaching the ground water table and proceeding to the reservoir, by implementing a filtration layer below the permeable concrete pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TRAC Multi-Disciplinary Research Congress aims to strengthen the culture of multi-disciplinary research\u2014even in the virtual setting\u2014and provide an avenue in presenting different researches, encouraging research development and making more individuals knowledgeable on the technicalities of multi-disciplinary research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2021 Congress was participated in by representatives of different universities, including academicians, researchers, scientists, students, professionals and engineers nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
