The University of the East deeply mourns the passing of Dr. Baltazar Nacion Endriga, one of its highly esteemed alumni who was a former UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan Dean and former UE President and Chief Academic Officer. President Endriga passed away this Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022. He was 82.
Born on December 21, 1939, in Davao City and raised in Libagon, Southern Leyte, Dr. Endriga graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from UE CBA Manila in 1960.
He was a Johnson Foundation Scholar and Peter Deuticke Fellow at the Harvard Business School, from which he earned his Master in Business Administration degree.
Dr. Endriga served as Alumni Partner of SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co., and Managing Director and President of Andersen Consulting Philippines, a multinational business and IT company, after earning his degrees.
In 1995, he was appointed by then Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos as President of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). He served as the institution’s President until 1999. He returned to the CCP in 2001 as part of its Board of Trustees and served as such until his demise.
Dr. Endriga became the Dean of UE CBA Caloocan in 2003. On August 1 of the same year, he succeeded Dr. Josefina R. Cortes as the President and Chief Academic Officer of his Alma Mater. He held the position until July 2005.
In 2010, Dr. Endriga founded Meridian International College (MINT College), applying international standards to college education coupled with unique attributes that further enhance all programs being offered.
Dr. Endriga was recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission as Outstanding Professional of the Year in Accountancy during the 2021 PRC Awards on November 15, 2021.
On UE’s end, Dr. Endriga was honored as one of the University’s 75 Most Outstanding Alumni in an online ceremony on October 2, 2021, as part of the University’s 75th Anniversary celebration.
Dr. Endriga’s remains lie in state at Chapel 1 of Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City. Public viewing will start this Wednesday, May 11, within 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will continue on May 12 to 14, within 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Internment will be this Sunday, May 15, 2022, after the 9 a.m. Mass.
