In line with the University of the East’s 75th Foundation Anniversary celebration, the UE Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) and the UE Drama Company (UEDC) invite everyone to catch the UEDC’s rendition of ‘The Great Theater of the World’ ‘(El Gran Teatro del Mundo)’, a classic play by Spanish playwright Pedro Calderon de la Barca.
The performance is directed by UEDC Artistic Director Mark Norman Boquiren, a UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan graduate who is also a 2019 Outstanding Alumnus Awardee by the UE Caloocan Alumni Association, Inc.
‘The Great Theater of the World’ is about seven actors who find themselves in a play, at the stage where greatness is made manifest: the world. Their lives will be judged based on their performance and how well they play each part. In the end, the Author decides who stays or who will set the trails.
This marks the UEDC’s official entry to the second edition of Teatro Europa, a theater festival organized by the Delegation of the European Union in the Philippines and joined by 16 different student or school-based theater organizations all over the country. This year, Teatro Europa partnered with the Intramuros Administration to give the UEDC a venue for its locked-in performance within its walls, inside the Puerta Real Gardens.
This performance will feature the following UEDC members: UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan (CAS Caloocan) 4th-year BA Communication students Maria Denice Valeda as Author, Krisha Rae Paje as World, and Estephanie Gem Biag as Beggar; UE SHS Caloocan-Performing Arts Strand (PAS) graduate Jacob Orlando as King; UE Manila Grade 12-Humanities and Social Sciences Strand (HUMSS) student Michael Lopez as Husbandman; UE CAS Manila BS Psychology sophomore John Walter Mendoza as Richman; UE CAS Mla. BS Psychology junior Erica Joy Tobes as Beauty; UE CAS Cal. BA Comm. senior Mariam Joi Dadizon as Discretion; and UE CAS Mla.
