The College of Computer Studies and Systems aims to promote computer studies and the application of computer technology in education, government and industry.
To train computer professionals competent in meeting the growing demand for software developers and IT experts in government, business, industry and education;
To continuously update and upgrade training programs attuned to the rapid global developments in computer technology;
To motivate its faculty and students to help advance the frontiers of computer research and development in the country; and
To provide sufficient exposure to relate academic instructions to actual practices in the world of computers.
Upon completion of the COMPUTER SCIENCE program, the graduates will be able to:
Apply knowledge of computing fundamentals including mathematics and science as well as specializations that evolve into the abstraction and conceptualization of computer models;
Identify, analyze, formulate, research literature and solution of complex computing problems with substantiated conclusions;
Utilize algorithmic principles and computer theory in the modelling and design of computer-based systems demonstrating comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices;
Internalize information security issues related to the design, development and use information systems;
Design and evaluate systems components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations;
Understand limitations in the accomplishment of common goals in the creation, and adaptation of techniques in design and use of tools;
Deliver capably their functions in diverse multidisciplinary settings;
Communicate effectively with the computing community by producing clearly written reports, documentation, and presentations;
Recognize the legal, social, ethical and professional issues involved in the utilization of computer technology as guided by the appropriate professional, ethical and legal standards; and
Engage ably in independent learning for continual self-development as a computing professional.
Upon completion of the INFORMATION SYSTEMS program, the graduates will be able to:
Apply knowledge of business processes, computing, mathematics, and social sciences appropriate to information systems.
Analyze the problem, identify and define computing problems based on computing requirements and organizational factors appropriate for planned strategies for their solution;
Evaluate information systems in terms of general quality attributes and possible tradeoffs presented within the given requirement;
Source cost benefit efficient alternatives to meet desired needs, goals, and constraints;
Recognize enterprises for modelling and design of information systems.
Utilize effectively the skills, tools, and techniques necessary for information systems practice;
Identify the different roles within a team and devise effective ways of organizing them to accomplish a common goal;
Communicate effectively with a range of audiences using skilful technical writing and presentation;
Recognize the legal, social, ethical and professional issues involved in the exploitation of computer technology guided by the adoption of appropriate professional, ethical and legal standards both in the local and global community; and
Engage ably in an independent and life-long self-learning plans for continuing professional development.
Upon completion of the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY program, the graduates will be able to:
Apply knowledge of computing, science, and mathematics appropriate to the discipline;
Employ best practices and standards and their applications.
Analyze complex problems, and define computing requirements appropriate to their solutions;
Identify and analyze user needs as basis for selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-based systems;
Design, implement and evaluate computer-based systems, processes, components, or programs to meet desired needs and requirements under various constraints;
Integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment effectively;
Apply knowledge through the use of current techniques, skills, tools and practices necessary for IT profession;
Function effectively as a member or leader of a development team recognizing the different roles within a team to accomplish a common goal;
Assist in the creation of an effective IT project plan; and
Communicate effectively with the computing community and with society at large about complex computing activities through logical writing, presentations, and clear instructions.
Upon completion of the ENTERTAINMENT AND MULTIMEDIA COMPUTING program, the graduates will be able to:
Apply knowledge of computing sciences on the practices of entertainment and multimedia computing professionals;
Provide specialized computing knowledge to solve actual problems in each applicable field;
Demonstrate a wide knowledge of contemporary issues related to the field;
Analyze project requirements and design and implement project prototypes within acceptable industry standards;
Design, build, improve and deploy products that meet client needs within realistic constraints;
Use appropriate techniques, skills and modern computing tools necessary in the practice of a professional game developer or animator;
Work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams;
Communicate effectively orally and in writing using the English language;
Recognize the effects and impact of entertainment and multimedia computing projects on nature and society, and of their social and ethical responsibilities;
Create or use original, innovative or modified artifacts in consideration of intellectual property rights of the author; and
Engage ably in life-long learning and accept the need to keep abreast of the development in the specific field of specialization.
The graduates of BSDS must have the ability to:
1. Apply knowledge of computing fundamentals, mathematics, statistics, and appropriate domain knowledge in solving problems.
2. Analyze complex problems and apply principles of data science and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
3. Design, develop and evaluate solutions for complex data science problems that meet specified needs.
4. Create, select, adapt and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern tools to complex data science activities.
5. Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multidisciplinary settings.
6. Recognize the legal, social, ethical and professional issues involved in the handling and utilization of data.
7. Communicate data stories effectively and create insightful reports, design documentation, presentations, and other output.
8. Recognize the need, and have the ability, to engage in independent learning for continual development.
