The May 9, 2022, national and local elections saw a number of distinguished alumni and graduates of the University of the East vying for national and local government posts. With the elections concluded and most of the winners proclaimed, the University congratulates all of its outstanding graduates and alumni who triumphed in their quest to serve their fellow Filipinos as elected public servants.
Leading the list of UE alumni turned elected officials is Congresswoman Lorna C. Silverio, a 1968 UE Bachelor of Business Administration graduated, who was elected as the representative of the third district of the Province of Bulacan.
Congressman-Elect Antonio A. Ferrer, a 1993 Bachelor of Laws graduate of the UE College of Law, representing the sixth district of Cavite; Congressman-Elect Ambrosio “Boy” Cruz Jr., a 1968 Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate of UE Manila, representing the fifth district of Bulacan; and Congressman-Elect Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, a 1986 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, for the lone district of the province of Camiguin.
Re-elected were Samar Governor Ben P. Evardone, a 1984 UE Bachelor of Business Administration graduate and a former Editor in Chief of the Dawn, UE’s student publication, for the Province of Samar; and former actor turned Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, who had studied Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management in UE Caloocan.
UE Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Juris Doctor alumnus Ishmael P. Lim was successful in seeking re-election as a Board Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Marinduque. Likewise successful in seeking re-election for Board Member is UE Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering 1986 graduate Rommel John Mella for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Sorsogon, while Board Member-Elect Teddy “Tata” Danao Jr., a 2005 UE Bachelor of Arts, major in Political Science graduate, won for the 2nd District of Masbate. Atty. Romeo S. Garcia, a 1982 UE Bachelor of Arts major in English and 1986 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, was likewise elected as Board Member for the 1st District of Cagayan Province
Mayor Javier Zacate won in his bid for re-election as Mayor of Sulat, Eastern Samar, while Mayor-Elect Leo Z. Mendoza, a 1993 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, was elected for San Andres, Catanduanes. UE Bachelor of Arts major in History alumna Marites Cabug-Dela Rosa was elected Mayor of Baleno, Masbate. Also elected was Mayor-Elect Leonel C. Guzman, a 1984 UE Bachelor of Arts major in Poltical Science and 1988 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, in Piat, Cagayan.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor-Elect Terryl Gamit-Talabong, a 2005 UE Bachelor of Arts, major in Political Science graduate, was elected in Pagsanjan, Laguna.
Councilor-Elect Aurora A. Henson, a 1988 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, won in third district of Caloocan City. Lipa City Councilor Galeleo “Gally” P. Angeles, a 2000 UE Bachelor of Laws graduate, was re-elected to a fresh term for the said Batangas city, while Councilor Cyril C. Costuna, a 2011 UE BSBA Management graduate, was re-elected in Gamay, Northern Samar. Likewise elected to fresh terms are UE alumnus Councilor Laurian Sia of San Pascual, Masbate, and Councilor Joseph “Jojo” Banzon, a UE Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science alumnus, who was re-elected in the first district of Marikina City.
Councilor-Elect Elmar Anyayahan, a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering graduate of UE Caloocan, won in Soccoro, Oriental Mindoro. Also, Councilor-Elect SB Estanislao H. Rodriguez III, a 2012 UE Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting graduate, got elected in Busuanga, Palawan.
Councilor-Elect Jerwyn G. Landicho, a 2011 UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Business Management graduate, won in Agoncillo, Batangas. Councilor-Elect Edlin B. Indon, a 2001 UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management graduate, was elected in San Rafael, Bulacan. 2008 UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management graduate Benicio B. Delos Reyes II was likewise elected as Councilor in Camiling, Tarlac. 2011 UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Financial Management and 2017 UE Juris Doctor graduate Desiree Garcia-Dinulong won as Councilor in Santa Teresita, Cagayan. Councilor-Elect Jason Roy T. Sibug, a 2001 Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science graduate and UE Bachelor of Laws alumnus, won in Kidapawan, Cotabato Province. Councilor-Elect Rodil R. Salazar, a 2012 UE Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Computer-based Accounting Systems graduate won in Pambujan, Northern Samar.
Councilor-Elect Grant Buena Joy C. Mesa, a 2014 UE Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science graduate, Summa Cum Laude, and 2018 UE Juris Doctor graduate, won in the municipality of Alabat, Quezon. Councilor-Elect Earl Donne S. Abeja, a 2016 UE Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering graduate, was elected in Sampaloc, Quezon. Councilot-Elect Nathan Sam O. Lacanilao, a 2003 UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Economics graduate, was elected in Brooke’s Point, Palawan. Likewise elected in Brooke’s Point as Councilor-Elect is 2005 UE Bachelor of Science in Computer Science graduate Richard “Tad” R. Balean.
Councilor Paul Anthony D. Artadi and Councilor-Elect James Carlos A. Yap, both UE Bachelor of Science in Business Administration alumni who had been key players for the UE Red Warriors Men’s Basketball Team, both won as Councilors for the 1st District of San Juan City in Metro Manila. This is Councilor Artadi’s third term as a member of the San Juan City Council.
Also winning as Councilors-Elect are UE alumni Jimmy Lagan Carbonell in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, and Philbert Tan in Las Navas, Northern Samar.
On a related note, Mr. Erwin Tulfo, a 2005 Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Special Degree program graduate of the UE College of Business Administration-Manila and a known broadcast journalist, was the third nominee of the Anti-Crime and Terrorism-Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party List, which is in the lead in the race for party list-elect. However, Mr. Tulfo has reportedly been appointed by the incoming administration to head the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
These newly elected Warrior Public Servants are set to begin their term at 12 noon of June 30, 2022.
