In light of World Press Freedom Day and the upcoming national election, the University of the East is co-hosting a timely and informative, Makati Business Club-hosted democracy roundtable discussion this Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2022, starting at 1 p.m.
Titled “Beyond the Ballot: Media and Information Post-Elections,” the webinar will tackle the importance of freedom of information, media freedom, and citizen participation in a democracy. The event will also allow guests to exchange ideas and explore collaboration on how to defend these freedoms post-elections.
“Beyond the Ballot” will have four renowned leaders in journalism and the academe as panelists: Dr. Aries Arugay, Editor in Chief of the journal Asian Politics & Policy; Southeast Asian Bureau Reporter Regine Cabato of The Washington Post; Philstar.com Editor in Chief Camille Diola; and Facts First podcast Host Christian Esguerra.
Dear UE students of voting age, you are enjoined to participate in this activity in two ways: pre-event and during the real-time live-stream. This would be an opportunity for your views and perspectives on freedom and democracy to be heard, by answering a quick survey on democracy, the upcoming election, and what you want the next government to deliver in the course of their administration.
Share your thoughts and expectations on democracy and the upcoming elections by voting in the survey seen here: //bit.ly/FreedomAndDemocracy. Voting is until May 3, 2022 only.
The Makati Business Club, together with the said distinguished panelists, will discuss your input on May 5, which can be viewed via the Makati Business Club Facebook page: //www.facebook.com/MakatiBusinessClub/.
This entire event is organized by the Makati Business Club and the Center for International Private Enterprise, in partnership with the British Embassy Manila.
It is co-presented by the Ateneo de Manila University School of Social Sciences’ Department of Communication, the Ateneo School of Government, Benilde School of Diplomacy and Governance, the De La Salle University Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance, the University of the East, the UE Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center, Inc., and the University of the Philippines College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
Let’s take part in this, Warriors—and let us truly vote wisely this May!
