The University of the East greatly mourns the passing of long-serving UE Trustee and former UE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Atty. Cornelio Tobias Peralta. Trustee Peralta passed away this Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
Born on February 2, 1933, Atty. Peralta had served as UE Chairman and CEO in January 1982 up to May 1984. Moreover, he had been one of the longest-serving members of the UE Board of Trustees, having been elected to the Board in May 1973. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc. (UERMMMCI).
Atty. Peralta earned his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of the Philippines. He also took up the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in the USA.
Trustee Peralta practiced law until he became the Chairman of the Board and President of Kimberly-Clark Philippines, Inc. from 1971 to 1998. He was President of Kimsari Paper Indonesia PT from 1985 to 1998, and later on also served as Chairman of the Philippine Stock Exchange from January to May 2011.
Trustee Peralta was also a member of the respective Boards of Directors of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., Makati Commercial Estate Association Inc., Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines, Wan Hai Lines Inc. and Grow Holdings Philippines, Inc. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. He had received scholarships, honors and distinctions, and was a member of various professional clubs and affiliations.
