Boys’ Volleyball Team Wins 8th Consecutive UAAP Championship

The UE Red Warriors Boys’ Volleyball Team was declared the Champion for the eighth consecutive year of the UAAP Boys’ Volleyball Tournament after defeating the University of Santo Tomas in three sets last February 5 at the UE Caloocan Gym. As such, the Boys’ Volleyball team now holds both the most number of championships won in the division with 11, as well as the longest winning streak in the division.

The Warriors swept the elimination round of this year’s tournament with 10 wins and zero losses, giving them a twice-to-beat advantage going into the finals. UST, on the other hand, had to hurdle a bout against National University, with whom they shared a 7-wins, 3-losses standing after the elimination round.

Edward V. Camposano, a 2nd-year student at the UE Elementary and Secondary Laboratory Schools (ESLS), was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He was also recognized as Best Spiker and Best Receiver.

Fellow sophomore Christian Lorez S. Gopio was recognized as the Rookie of the Year. Senior-year students Geuel D. Asia and Karl Justine D. Roque were the Best Setter and Best Receiver, respectively.

Rounding up the winning Boys’ Volleyball Team are freshmen Rencel M. Ambay, Czarles S. Garcia, Ralph Raymond C. Madrigal, Ron Adrian D. Medalla, Joshua A. Umandal and Aaron F. Yencheung; and junior students Reuel D. Asia, Jack L. Kalingking, Evander C. Monsanto and Lester Kim V. Sawal.

The UE Red Warriors Girls’ Volleyball Team, for its part, was the 1st Runner-up in the Girls’ Volleyball Tournament after bowing to De La Salle Zobel at their matches on January 28 and 29, also at the UE Caloocan Gym.

First-year student Christine Mhae Tolentino was recognized as the Rookie of the Year and Best Libero, while senior student Pia Gabrielle B. Sarmiento was the Best Receiver.

Completing the Girls’ Volleyball Team are freshmen Kate Jazlyne L. Acuzar, and Michaella Charise E. Kutch; sophomores Roselle P. Baliton, Chumcee Ann P. Caole, Janica Bianca Anjela P. Escalambre, Micca Z. Nazario and Aurea Francesca C. Racraquin; junior Ma. Shaya C. Adorador; and seniors Mary Jean G. Alzo, Nina Christine D. Baltazar, Eunique D. Chan and Alissa C. Magallanes.

UE alumnus Ruel Pascual, a 1999 Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Physical Education, graduate of the College of Education, serves as the Head Coach of the UE Red Warriors Boys’ Volleyball Team, with Mr. Robert Javier as the Assistant Coach. For the Girls’ Team, alumnus Bobby Celso, a UE BSED, PE 1991 graduate, serves as the Head Coach, while fellow alumnus Mark Anthony Santos, a UE BSED, PE 2005 graduate, is the Assistant Coach.
