UE_news_sept_2015The University of the East Graduate School is launching the first UE Kamaynilaan Research Conference on September 26, 2015, 1:30 p.m., at the Conference Hall in UE Manila. The theme for the inaugural conference is “Inter-Multi Perspectives and Directions for a Scholarly Research Experience.”

Born to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas and collaborative studies and projects among schools and to become a scholarly and professional research center that provides forums, resources and opportunities for all research enthusiasts and practitioners, the UE Kamaynilaan Research Conference is anchored on the belief that research is one of the most relevant modes through which university education takes place. The conference was established in honor of the late Dr. P. O. Domingo, former Chairman of the Board and President of the University of the East.

Development Academy of the Philippines Chair Cayetano W. Paderanga Jr., Ph.D, will deliver a Keynote Speech on the “Emerging Issues and Challenges in ASEAN Economic Integration: Directions for Research.”

Dr. Paderanga is also a Professor at the University of the Philippines-Diliman School of Economics, a position he has held for the past 36 years. He was part of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as Secretary from 1990 to 1992 and as Secretary of Socioeconomic Planning and Director from 2010 to 2012. Also among his past positions are Chairman of the Institute of Development and Econometric Analysis, Executive Director and Alternative Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank, Board Member of the ASEAN Foundation and a member of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Dr. Paderanga earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Accounting from De La Salle University in 1968. He then went on to earn his Master in Industrial Economics degree from the Center for Research and Communication (now the University of Asia and the Pacific) in 1972, followed by his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University in 1976.

Dr. Paderanga will be introduced as UE Kamaynilaan keynote speaker by UE Graduate School Dean Julian E. Abuso, Ph.D.

There will also be a Poster Exhibit and Presentation, and Paper Presentations in Parallel Sessions, at 8 a.m., at the UE Graduate School lobby. UE Doctor of Education students Nelson Agoyaoy and Cherry Rojo (who is the launch’s toast master) will serve as facilitators for the paper presentations. Plenary speeches will later be delivered by UE College of Engineering Associate Dean for Computer Studies and Systems Maria Amelia E. Damian, Ph.D.; UE Graduate School Professorial Lecturer Clarissa D. Guia, Ph.D; and UE CAS Caloocan Professor Alberto T. Paala Jr., Ph.D.
