UE Gymnasts Power Through in Int’l Competitions

Members of the UE Red Warriors Gymnastics Team have made the country, and the University, proud after representing the Philippines in various international gymnastics competitions in the past few months, a number of them with podium finishes.

Ma. Cristina F. Onofre, a third-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Tourism Management student of the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Manila, was part of the team representing the Philippines in the 18th Asian Games held recently in Jakarta, Indonesia. Ms. Onofre placed 12th out of 70 participants in the qualifying round of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics on August 21, 2018, at the Jakarta International Expo Hall.

Earlier, Ms. Onofre competed at the 2018 Ukrainian International Cup in Kiev, Ukraine, last March 31 to April 1, 2018 and at the 2018 Singapore Open Gymnastics Championship on June 2 to 4, 2018, winning 3rd Place in the vault competition of both events. She has been a Southeast Asian Games competitor twice over, having seen action in both the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore and the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She won a bronze medal in the team event of the 2015 Games and finished in fourth place in the pole and vault events of the 2017 edition.

Luvicar Janine T. Padilla, a BS in Hospitality Management freshman of UE CAS Manila, won 1st Place in the Women’s B Class Division of the Miyazaki Open 2018 Trampoline Championship held last August 18 to 19 in Miyazaki, Japan. The competition saw Ms. Padilla compete with Japanese nationals and five other Filipino participants.

Ms. Padilla, who is also a May 2018 Senior High School-ABM graduate of the UE Manila Basic Education Department, was likewise a participant of the Philippine National Games last May 12 to 16, 2018, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. She won 1st Place in the Synchronized Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline events, and 2nd Place in the Individual Trampoline event.

Gerald C. Ferrer, a third-year Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Music, Art, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH), student at the UE College of Education, also competed in the Philippine National Games, earning 2nd Place in Sports Aerobics.

The UE Red Warriors Gymnastics Team is under the mentorship of Philippine National Gymnastics Team Coach Normita Dimanlig-Ty.
