UE Jam Sessions (UEJS), a young student organization of the University of the East, has come up with a song of tribute and inspiration titled “Lalaban Tayo”.

A homage to frontliners amid the ongoing pandemic and regional lockdowns, “Lalaban Tayo” is a collaborative effort of UEJS officers and members across UE Manila and UE Caloocan, involving 34 student musicians in the collegiate and senior high school levels.

The song was written by UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan student Jenny Legapi; recorded, mixed and produced by musical arranger Choi Felipe; and executive produced by Tommy Tanchanco. An accompanying music video was made for the song’s online release, featuring the various participating singers and instrumentalists’ respective self-recordings along with fansigning supporters from both UE campuses, interspersed with various frontline footage courtesy of the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Pasig DRRMO).

Mr. Tanchanco, the youngest son of outstanding UE graduate and pioneer Executive Director of UE’s Marketing Department, Dr. Jesus T. Tanchanco Sr., recalls that the entire song-and-video production took three months. “Despite limited resources and massive challenges the students faced in the recording process, we were able to improvise and produce a studio-quality recording of this uplifting pop-rock anthem as their way of honoring the hard work that medical, security and essential frontliners have had to endure,” he says of the video that was launched on YouTube on June 21, 2020: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBzcE57uL8I&feature=youtu.be&app=desktop.

“As we move forward, we put our hopes in one another,” adds Mr. Tanchanco, who is Chief Executive Officer of the song’s 12 Stone Records label. “Reshaping our lives in this quarantine won’t be easy for all of us, but still, let us not forget the people who risk their own lives and go beyond their call of duty.”

The 28 participating student-vocalists are:

UE College of Arts and Sciences’ (CAS) Diadem Dela Rosa, Jenny Legapi, Saida Manap, Erry Mendez, Alexandra Reymundo and Pau Sena;
