UE EHSD Now an ESC-Accredited School!

The UE Elementary and High School Department (EHSD) in UE Caloocan passed accreditation procedures by the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE) after an accreditation visit to the UE Caloocan Campus last November 11, 2011. With this accreditation, the UE EHSD is now an Education Service Contracting (ESC) -Accredited School, effective School Year 2012-2013.

With the EHSD now an ESC-accredited school, graduates of public elementary schools who wish to enroll in a private high school as freshmen may now be extended a P10,000 subsidy annually by the Philippine government through FAPE.

The ESC is one of the major government programs through FAPE. The financial grant aims to help decongest the country’s public high schools by providing grants and subsidies worth P10,000 to students who enroll in private high schools from freshman year onwards. The program is similar to the now-defunct Education Voucher System (EVS) of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, of which the EHSD as well as the Elementary and Secondary Laboratory Schools in UE Manila are accredited schools.

Similar to other accreditations, the FAPE accreditation looks at the quality of education, facilities, level of achievement of the faculty, curricular programs, leadership and management, as well as the school’s mission and vision, all of which the EHSD passed.

While there is no grade requirement or maintaining grade necessary to avail of the subsidy, the EHSD may adapt its own screening procedures to better evaluate the capabilities of those who will be recommended as grantees. In addition, the ESC is a continuous, government-mandated program, meaning there is no need for re-accreditation.
