Second General Faculty Conference to Help Keep ‘Building the UE Spirit’

UE will be holding a two-day faculty conference themed “Building the UE Spirit—Transforming Philippine Education: K + 12 and Higher Education” at Club Balai Isabel Resort in Talisay, Batangas on June 11-12, 2012. This is a sequel to a similar UE faculty conference in 2011, which had 300 faculty members of UE Manila and UE Caloocan as participants.

The UE Faculty Conference is being undertaken in recognition of the importance of the faculty of instruction as an indispensable foundational pillar of any higher education institution.

As such, the faculty conference is aimed at (1) providing equal opportunity for all of UE’s regular faculty members in disseminating knowledge on the different aspects of their teaching profession; (2) providing an avenue to feed the minds, enlighten the souls and inflame the hearts of the attendees, such that they will be motivated and rejuvenated towards their professional as well as personal lives; and (3) strengthening teamwork, camaraderie and harmonious relationships among UE’s faculty members and administrators, through teambuilding activities and a fellowship night.

The daytime of Day 1 of the 2012 UE Faculty Conference will feature four luminaries to talk about their respective areas.

Dr. Elena R. Ruiz, the Assistant Secretary for Programs and Projects of the Department of Education, will be the keynote speaker and will talk on “Major Decisions on the K to 12 Curriculum.” Dr. Catherine Q. Castañeda, Director V of the Commission on Higher Education-National Capital Region, will tackle “Current Preparations of Higher Education.” Dr. Jaime Galvez-Tan, the former Secretary of Health, will tackle “Wellness for Educators,” while Dr. Jesus Tanchanco Sr., the Executive Director of UE’s Marketing Department, will talk about how to “Promote the University for Prosperity.”

Day 1 will conclude with a “Silangan Tribal Festival” fellowship night and dinner at the resort’s poolside. The fellowship night will find the attendees, who will be requested to be in ethnic attire, participating in a sky lantern ceremony, group games and the awarding of the “Lakan at Dayang-Dayang ng Gabi” (King and Queen of the Night).

Day 2 will feature an array of teambuilding activities to further strengthen teamwork, camaraderie and harmony relationships among the participating faculty members and administrators. There will be six teams featuring a mix of faculty members from the various colleges of UE’s Manila and Caloocan campuses.
This entire holistic, off-campus affair, which would be a refreshing collective experience for Lualhati’s teaching force, is ultimately expected to rejuvenate the UE community in general and the University’s academic community in particular.
