IBP, Rotary, UE CLaw symposium to tackle Same Sex Marriage


The University of the East College of Law (UE CLaw) joined forces with the Rotary Club of Manila and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to conduct a symposium on the proposition: Same Sex Marriage, Is It Right?

The symposium is scheduled on Friday, February 14, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the IBP Conference Hall, J. Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Business Center, Pasig City. Guest speakers are Justice Zenaida Elepano, former Court Administrator and professor and BAR reviewer; Rev. Ceejay Agbayan, LGBTS Founder, Christian Church; Bro. Wael Ibrahim, Serving Islam (Hongkong) Founder and Chairman; Fr. Jerome Marquez, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Priest, Kamuning, Quezon City,

Elepano will present the legal framework of marriage which includes legal systems in the United States, Europe and Asian countries and the Philippines. Other speakers will provide opposing and advocating views. “This is a sensitive topic of far reaching significance which may change many concepts of marital and social life,” UE College of Law Dean Amado D. Valdez says.

This forum is Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) accredited. All UE CLaw faculty members and students are enjoined to attend. The students will be exempted from their classes and the faculty members will be deemed to have conducted his/her class on that day. The Juris Doctor (JD) UE students will be credited a number of hours for their apprenticeship program by accomplishing the required compliance form, according to Dean Valdez.
