UE Chorale concert on December 1, UE Christmas Celebration 2014

The University of the East Chorale (UEC) is all set to entertain the UE community with their repertoire of “Christmas Carols” on Monday, December 1, at 2:00 p.m., at the Dalupan Lobby, UE Manila, 2219 C. M. Recto Avenue, Sampaloc, Manila.

A presentation of the UE Office of Cultural Affairs (UE OCA), headed by Director Gener Caringal, the afternoon concert gives the UE community the opportunity to experience once again, a live performance of the UE student choral ensemble under the helm of its long-time master conductor Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero.
The UEC and its choir master Abeleda-Piquero have reaped numerous accolades and recognition for UE: as two-time Grand Prix winner of the Busan International Choral Competition in 2006, including gold medal in the pop category, and in 2007, including gold medal in both pop and classical categories. It had won the grand prize in pop and jazz categories at the 43rd International Chorale Competition “C.A. Seghizzi”, Gorizia, Italy, and the most coveted Publikumspreis Award. The UEC was also a Consumer’s Choice awardee for the Most Outstanding Chorale Group of 2003 and the Grand Prize Winner in 2003 Himig ng Koro Chorale Competition in the Philippines. The UEC has guested in several choral festivals locally and abroad. They performed in a series of concerts together with National Artist for Music and Founder of Philippine Madrigal Singers, the late Professor Andrea O. Veneracion. Choir master Anna is also a choral consultant of several company choirs while avidly singing with the Philippine Madrigal Singers, as well as holding choral workshops all over the country, as part of the MADZ and NCCA outreach programs.

Admission is free; the concert is open to all. Interested non-UE community members will be required to present proper identification to the guards at the UE Recto, Dalupan (Gastambide) and S. Loyola (Lepanto) gates.

The 2014 UE Christmas celebration kicked off November 18 at UE Manila and November 19 at UE Caloocan, with similar programs of activities comprised: the opening of the Christmas Village, Sunduan, Thanksgiving Mass, Lighting of UE Christmas Trees, and Pamaskong Handog. UE officials, led by President Ester A. Garcia, EVP Carmelita Mateo, UE Chancellor Linda Santiago and UE Caloocan Chancellor Zosimo Battad, students, faculty and employees participated in the late afternoon festivities.

Culminating the UE Christmas celebration is a Christmas program on Friday, December 19, featuring the faculty incentive awards, and the Christmas extravaganza, including the awarding of winners of the Christmas tree competition and dance competition finals, among others.
