UE Caloocan Conducts Dynamic 4th Guidance Week

The University of the East Caloocan Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO) will be having its 4th Guidance Week Celebration on November 9 to 13, 2015 with the theme “Zero to Hero: Your Journey to a Super You.”

Led by UE Caloocan Guidance Coordinator Remedios C. Moog, RGC, RPm, with the support of her zealous counselors and staffers, the UE Caloocan GCO continues to support UE’s Total Student Care policy by developing the best and most responsive programs aimed to help UE students achieve their optimal development.

The thrust of this year’s Guidance Week Celebration is to showcase the uniqueness of superheroes and their qualities and characteristics worth emulating and imbibing in our students, so that they too can become heroes in their own right.

The celebration kicks off with “Heroes’ Welcome” opening ceremonies on November 9, 2015. The activities will include a Thanksgiving Mass, the Opening of Exhibits, a Cosplay Competition and a Cosplay Parade with Meet and Greet to promote the GCO to the student body.

The second day, November 10, will have “League of Extraordinary People” as theme. Group guidance sessions will be conducted for the GCO’s special groups, namely “Unique Hero Inside” for international students, and “Esteem Power: A Guide to Become a Self-Directed Individual” for the college probationary students under the Self-Esteem Power Program (SEPP).

On November 11, a.k.a. “Power Enhancement Day,” the GCO will conduct a wide array of enrichment seminars for the students. Topics will include “Go Cyber Warriors!: A Seminar on Cyber Threats and Security” for 2nd-year college students in coordination with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group; “Possessing the Characteristics of a Superb Worker,” a Work Attitude, Values, and Ethics (WAVE) seminar for 3rd-year college students featuring UE CBA Caloocan professor and 2015 Happiest Pinoy winner Dr. Richardson E. Navor as keynote speaker; “Be Someone’s Hero…Stop Bullying,” an Anti-Bullying Seminar for Grade 6 and 7 Students with resource speaker Dr. Sheila Marie G. Hocson, RGC, RP; and, “Extraordinary Will, Extraordinary Children: Building, Enjoying, Sustaining and Treasuring (B.E.S.T.) Friendship” with guest speaker Dr. Felipe P. Briana, RGC.

“Fellowship of the Peers” is set for November 12. The highlights of the day will include the annual interschool peer interaction which this year has “Peers of Today, Heroes of Tomorrow” as theme, where peer facilitators and peer counselors from other higher educational institutions convene for learning, fun, and camaraderie. The self-identified LGBT support group will also hold its fellowship session, to strengthen the bonds between the members of the support group and their allies.

On November 13, “Heroes’ Day Off,” leisure activities and a community outreach program designed for stress and emotional relief will cap off the weeklong celebration. The day will see “Painting Therapy” done in coordination with 2002 Handiceramics Shop; “Art Collage and Toy Exhibit”; a “Cineinternational” Movie Day Fundraiser by the International Students Organization (ISO); and “Tugtugan Session” a music-therapy community outreach program for the children of Bahay Kalinga ng Valenzuela.
