UE Holds Convocation on Martial Law featuring Author-Reporter Raissa Robles

The University of the East-Caloocan Campus is currently marking UE Caloocan Week 2017, and one of the highlights of the weeklong celebration is a university convocation whose theme is “Martial Law? Never Again,” featuring Ms. Raissa E. Robles (see photo) as keynote speaker.

This special convocation takes place this Friday, February 17, 2017, 10 a.m. onwards at the Multipurpose Hall of the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Building in UE Caloocan. UE Caloocan college and senior high school students and professors, among others, will be in attendance.

An author, investigative reporter and political blogger, Ms. Robles is the publisher, webmaster and writer of the investigative and news blog raissarobles.com: Inside Philippine politics and beyond, which won as Best Society and Politics Blog in the Philippines at the 2015 Bloggys Awards.

Ms. Robles is the senior Manila correspondent of South China Morning Post in Hong Kong, Asia’s oldest English language newspaper. She has contributed reports to The Times of London, The Mail Online, BBC Radio, the Economist Intelligence Unit and Reuters, among other media outlets. She has been doing political and business news, covering the Mindanao rebel conflict, the peace talks, Islamic radicalism and Beijing-Manila relations.

Ms. Robles is the author of three books, the latest of which is 2016’s Marcos Martial Law: Never Again, a comprehensive volume tackling “A Brief History of Torture and Atrocity under the New Society” and published by Filipinos For a Better Philippines, Inc. She has also had the rare privilege of watching power up close, especially via face to face interviews with then presidents Corazon C. Aquino, Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph E. Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno S. Aquino III.

Ms. Robles graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, major in Imaginative Writing, magna cum laude, from the University of the Philippines, and attended a course at the International Institute for Journalism in Berlin, Germany.
