Three junior high school members of the UE Red Warriors Fencing Team made their victorious mark in the Allstar Asian Under 14 Fencing Championships/Tomorrow’s Star Fencing Competition held last September 2 and 3, 2017, at the Hong Kong Convention Center.

Organized by the Hong Kong Fencing School and sponsored by Allstar Hong Kong, this annual competition for high school student-fencers under age 14 featured athletes from (in alphabetical order) China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia and Taipei.

UE’s (and among the Philippines’) bets were Grade 9 student Prince John Felipe and Grade 8 students Shawn Nicollei Felipe and Eytria Olarte, all junior high school students of the Elementary and Secondary Laboratory Schools (ESLS) in UE Manila.

Prince John Felipe, who belongs to the ESLS’s Grade 9 Silver section, won two Allstar Asian Fencing Championship gold medals: one each from the Under 14 Boys’ Individual Foil and the U14 Boys’ Team Foil competitions.

For his part, Shawn Nicollei Felipe (Gr. 8-Diamond) won a gold medal as part of the winning U14 Boys’ Team Foil and the bronze medal from the U14 Boys’ Individual Foil competition.

Meanwhile, Eytria Olarte (Grade 8-Garnet) won two silver medals: one each from the U14 Girls’ Individual Foil and Team Foil competitions.

Members of the UE Red Warriors Fencing Team, the UAAP fencing team with the most championships to date, have participated in the Allstar Fencing Championships, with recent SEA Games silver medalist Samantha Catantan winning a gold medal.

Congratulations, young Warrior Fencers, and thank you for making your school and your country proud!
