The UE Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), presents Haligi ng Harayang Pilipino, a two-fold exhibit highlighting awardees of the Order of National Artists and the Gawad ng Manlilikha ng Bayan. The exhibit, which is ongoing at the Dalupan Lobby in UE Manila, opened on February 1, 2018. It is part of UE’s celebration of National Arts Month, whose theme is “Ani ng Sining, Alab ng Sining.”

The Order of National Artists (Orden ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts in Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film, Broadcast Arts, and Architecture and Allied Arts.

Among the National Artists featured in the exhibit is UE alumnus and UE honorary degree recipient Virgilio S. Almario.

The Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GaMaBa) or National Living Treasure Award is conferred to an individual or group whose distinctive skills have reached a high level of technical and artistic excellence and have been passed on to and practiced by the present generation in the artist’s community.

Among the GaMaBa awardees features in the exhibit are T’boli weaver Lang Dulay, Mangyan poet Ginaw Bilog, Kapampangan metal sculptor Eduardo Mutuc, Ilocana master weaver Magdalena Gamayo, and Kalinga musician and dancer Alonzo Saclag.

The exhibit also features samples of their works, such as a metal sculpture by Mr. Mutuc and T’nalak weaves by Ms. Dulay.

Haligi ng Harayang Pilipino was previously on display at the S’Maison at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.

The exhibit will run until February 25, 2018, in UE Manila.
