UE CEduc Dean is PRC’s Outstanding Professional of the Year in Education!

UE College of Education (CEduc) Dean Evelina Maclang-Vicencio, Ph.D., has been chosen by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the 2018 Outstanding Professional in the field of Education. She will be feted at the PRC Awards Night on June 21, 2018, at the Fiesta Pavilion of The Manila Hotel.

The Outstanding Professional Award of the Year is, per the PRC, “the highest award bestowed by the Commission upon a professional as recommended by his/her peers for having amply demonstrated professional competence of the highest degree and conducted meaningfully in professional activities through the professional organization, contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession, and contributed significantly to the effective discharge of the profession’s social responsibility through meaningful contribution or participation in socio-related activities.”

Hailed by the PRC as “an outstanding teacher, leader, researcher, and extension worker,” Dean Vicencio earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Cum Laude, from the Philippine Normal College. Her academic career began as a teacher of the Pinaglabanan, Pedro Cruz and San Juan Elementary Schools in her native San Juan City, before embarking on her extensive career with the University of the Philippines.

It was also in UP that Dean Vicencio earned her Master of Education degree, and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with Academic Excellence, and the DOST Science Education Institute (SEI) Most Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. She earned another Masters degree in Health Personnel Education as a Fellow at the University of New South Wales Australia. She was sent on further studies as a USAID Fellow in Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Madison, Confluent Education at the University of California Santa Barbara, dissertation research on Creativity at the State University College at Buffalo, New York, and on Curriculum Leadership at the Queensland University of Technology in 2014.

As a teacher, Dean Vicencio had been recognized as the 1988 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher awardee and in 2009 received the Award for Continuing Excellence in Service (ACES). She also received the UP Education Alumni Association Professional Excellence Award and the UP Gawad Chanselor Pinakamahusay na Guro. She also became President of the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators (NOTED) Honor Society and the UP Director of Instruction.

Her accolades in research are as impressive. In 2013, Dean Vicencio received the Department of Science and Technology National Research Council of the Philippines National Achievement Award for her publications and researches as Professorial Chair Holder and Director of the UP-CHED Zonal Research Center.

Her extension work as a curriculum developer allowed her to work as a consultant of the South Pacific Commission in Palau and of the Asian Development Bank in Indonesia and Vietnam. She was also consultant of the Department of Education on the K-to-12 curriculum, as well as with the Commission on Higher Education on Outcomes-based Education. She also became the Training Chair of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education, Inc. (FUSE), developing the Foundation’s training and instructional designs.

An advocate of Scouting, Dean Vicencio is a multi-awarded Scout Leader and Trainer of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, having received Gold, Silver and Bronze awards as Cub Scout Leader; Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals of Merit for national achievements; Gold Usa Award for meritorious service in the field of training; Gold, Silver and Bronze Tamaraw Awards for international achievements, with the distinction of being the first female awardee; and the World Organization of the Scout Movement Asia-Pacific Region Chairman’s Medal for Outstanding Service in 15 countries as Leader Trainer. In 2012, she received the Boy Scout of the Philippines Lifetime Achievement Award.

San Juan City also honored Dean Vicencio with the San Juaneño Excellence Award in celebration of the City’s 107th Founding Anniversary in 2014. She was recognized for contributing to the City’s faculty development activities and sourcing funds for the purchase of library books and school equipment.
