The University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD) kicked off its yearlong 55th founding anniversary celebration last August 3, 2018, with the opening of the monthlong, first-of-its-kind exhibition titled “Folium Quadrennial Exhibit: Revisiting the CFAD Mentors’ Portfolio.” The Folium venue is the ground floor lobby of the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building of UE Caloocan.

The event, which was two years in the making, was spearheaded by the UE CFAD Academic Guild headed by its Prefectus Maximus, Asst. Prof. Ronwell Jason L. Bacani, and the exhibition committee with award-winning filmmaker Richard S. Legaspi as chair, Interior Designer Pamela Leila S. Galera as co-chair and Architect Jan Michael H. de Olazo as the exhibition secretary.

A total of 15 faculty members are exhibiting their respective profiles and portfolio at UE Caloocan, namely Ar. Joseph Alcoran, Asst. Prof. Ronwell Jason Bacani, Ar. Art Barroca, Ar. Jan Michael De Olazo, Ar. Arnold de Vera, Prof. Fe Evangelio, Ar. Abelardo Firmeza, IDr. Pamela Leila Galera, Ar. Melanie Gime, Engr. Jemuel Jao, Ar. Michel Landicho, Dir. Richard Legaspi, Ar. Glenn Openiano, Ar. Janice Echiverri–Quintano, and Mr. Kristoffer Tolentino together with UE CFAD Dean Celino B. Santiago and College Secretary Daniel Dennis J. Lim.

The exhibit showcases the College’s powerhouse administrative officers and faculty members, showing that these individuals are not just academicians but also active, talented and expert practitioners of their respective fields and professions. The exhibited works include the mentors’ works from here and abroad, as multi-awarded filmmaker, advertising specialist, architects, environmental planners, project and construction managers, interior designer, furniture designer, engineer and/or heritage advocate as well as their community involvements.

Another interesting feature of the exhibit is the #3Things of each exhibitor that provides trivia on their personal history, hobbies, collections and life outside the University. Who would have thought that one of the faculty members was supposed to be part of the group of boy scouts who perished in a plane crash? Or that some of them were also theater actors and musicians? This is also a way for UE CFAD students to see the lighter side of their professors, including who has a huge collection of Lego, Kimmidolls, flags, toy cars, and many more. How cool is it, that their college secretary was once a band vocalist and that their Dean is also a bowling champion? These are just some of the unique and remarkable things to see at Folium.

The opening of the Folium also celebrates the College’s 54 years of being one of the country’s oldest and leading design and art schools and one of the currently emerging architecture institutions.

The exhibit launch was graced and officially opened by the UE Caloocan Chancellor, Dr. Zosimo M. Battad, Dean Santiago, and other deans and administrative officers of the Caloocan Campus. The exhibit will run up to August 30, 2018 in UE Caloocan, with a UE Manila leg coming soon.

Kudos, CFAD Warrior Faculty Members and Officers!
