Ms. Angelyn S. Morante, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) student of the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD), emerged as one of the top 10 finalists of Estilo de Vida, an inter-school interior design (ID) competition held most recently on November 8 to 11, 2018, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Estilo De Vida (EDV) is an annual competition and is one of the anticipated features of Philconstruct, an annual trade show on construction materials organized by Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA), together with Philconstruct Events in cooperation with Exhibitions and Conferences Corp. (PEECC), and the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID). The competition provides ID students the opportunity to present their competency to well-respected contractors and interior designers in the country. Competition participants must be certified third- or fourth-year Interior Design students of their respective schools at the time of the competition. The participating schools can submit a maximum of five individual entries from as many entrants.

Five third-year UE BSID students, including Ms. Morante, were handpicked by the UE CFAD to compete. (Potential fourth-year UE BSID student-participants were busy with their respective theses.)

The EDV 2018 participants had to design a lounge that offers a fresh, free-flowing, mindset-changing atmosphere for a space with the floor area of 28 square meters (4m depth x 7m width x 2.7m height). Entries were due for submission last September 21.

The panel of judges consisted of constructors, interior designers, architects and suppliers, including UE alumnus IDr. Mark Ruther Gicana, himself a former EDV 2nd runner-up winner.

Acting as Ms. Morante’s competition mentor was UE CFAD Senior ID Faculty Member Brigid Abad Sarmiento, who recalls the process being “very tedious for Ms. Morante as she had to articulate her design proposal to the organizers.” Prof. Sarmiento advised Ms. Morante on space planning and programming, style, concept, materials, furnishings and furniture selection, and her composition requirements.

Ms. Morante managed to make it to the top 10 of the competition, for which she was entitled to a P10,000 cash prize and P5,000 worth of gift certificates from CW Home Depot.

Congratulations, Warrior Interior Design Student!
