UE graduate Dr. Romeo Sta. Maria Egot has been chosen by the City Government of Caloocan as one of Caloocan City’s Outstanding Citizen Awardees! The awarding of, specifically, his Outstanding Citizen Award in Education was held on February 15, 2019, at the Caloocan City Hall, in celebration of the 57th Cityhood Anniversary of Caloocan.

UE graduate Dr. Romeo Sta. Maria Egot has been chosen by the City Government of Caloocan as one of Caloocan City’s Outstanding Citizen Awardees! The awarding of, specifically, his Outstanding Citizen Award in Education was held on February 15, 2019, at the Caloocan City Hall, in celebration of the 57th Cityhood Anniversary of Caloocan.

In the resolution, Dr. Egot, who has been the Principal of Libis Talisay Elementary School in Caloocan City since May 2018, was described as a simple and honorable man who rose from the ranks to be a very encouraging teacher with a genuine concern for schoolchildren, marked by his unwavering dedication to bring quality education to his constituents.

More outstanding is his selfless dedication towards giving his all for students despite being a person with disability. Stricken with polio since he was a young boy, Dr. Egot however did not let this hinder him from performing his duties, growing into an astute leader, one displaying competence and expertise in introducing and initiating development programs for students.

As a UE student, Dr. Egot served as the President of the UE Caloocan Central Student Council (CSC) for two consecutive terms: school years 1996-97 and 1997-98. He was the Chairman of UE Caloocan’s Tinig ng Silangan Party Alliance from 1995 to 1997, was recognized as one of the Campus’s Top 12 Outstanding Student Council Officers of 1996, and was awarded as the Most Outstanding CAS Caloocan Student in 1997.

Dr. Egot earned his Master sa Pagtuturo ng Filipino from Philippine Normal University in 2008. He received his Doctor of Education, major in Educational Management, degree from the Governor Andres Pascual College in Navotas City in 2015.

He passed the Elementary Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in 1999, and the LET for Secondary Instructors a year later. His teaching career began in 1999 as a high school teacher and assistant principal at the Little Joy Learning School in 1999. He then worked as a Teacher 1 at the Llano Elementary School from July 2001 to November 2005, and at Bagong Silang Elementary School from November 2005 to January 2006. He was a Master Teacher 1 from January 2006 to January 2009, and a Master Teacher 2 from January 2009 to August 2014, all at Bagong Silang Elementary School.

He became the Principal of Bagumbong Elementary School-Annex in August 2014 up to April 2015, and of Eulogio Rodriguez Elementary School in April 2015 up to May 2018.

Dr. Egot was the first educator from Caloocan City to be awarded Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser for NCR by the Department of Education in 2009. In 2010, he was awarded the Philippines’ Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser at the National School Press Conference in Tagum City.
Aside from all that, he was a consistent recipient of the Superintendent Gold Award, the highest award given by the Department of Education-Caloocan, from 2003 to 2011. He was recognized as the Most Outstanding Teacher by the Gawad Pampelikulang Samahan ng mga Dalubguro (PASADO) and received the Pambansang Samahan ng mga Tagapagtaguyod ng Filipino (PASATAF)’s Gawad Sigasig in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

In 2010, PASATAF and DepEd awarded Dr. Egot with the Kauna-unahang Pambansang Natatanging Guro sa Filipino and was later on awarded Ulirang Guro sa Filipino by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, in 2014. He was also ranked number one in the 2014 Caloocan Division open ranking for Education Supervisors. In 2018, Dr. Egot received the Gawad Dyornalismo Lifetime Achievement Award for Campus Journalism from the Center for Promotion of Campus Journalism Inc.

In 2015, UE CAS Caloocan awarded him as an Outstanding Alumnus.

Caloocan City’s Outstanding Citizen Award aims to recognize the city’s residents and institutions that have been devoted to service to the community, spanning years of selfless dedication.
