UE Hosts Free Seminar Workshop for High School Guidance Counselors


The UE Marketing Department. in coordination with the UE Guidance and Counseling Office, will be conducting its latest free seminar-workshop for high school guidance counselors this week.

Titled “Counseling Practice in Light of Emerging Issues and Concerns,” the seminar-workshop will be held this Friday, May 24, 2019, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Multipurpose Hall of the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Building in UE Caloocan.

This year’s seminar-workshop will feature two resource persons: Dr. Susana A. Estanislao and Prof. Roselle S. Basa. Dr. Estanislao will talk about “Identifying and Managing Boundary Issues in Counseling” while Prof. Basa’s talk will be about “The Data Privacy Act: Its Relevance in Today’s Guidance and Counseling.”

A registered guidance counselor and a registered psychologist, Dr. Estanislao was a University Counselor for De La Salle University from 1993 to 2018, and served as Director of its Office of Counseling and Career Services from 2011 to 2014. Dr. Estanislao, who has also worked as a part-time faculty member of DLSU, St. Scholastica’s College-Manila and the San Pablo Colleges Graduate School, has been a Counseling Psychologist for In Touch Community Services in Makati City since this January.

Dr. Estanislao earned her degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Cum Laude, from the Philippine Normal College, and received from DLSU her degrees of Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling, and Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology major in Clinical Counseling.

Prof. Basa is a graduate of the UE College of Computer Studies and Systems (CCSS), from which she earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree. She is a full-time UE CCSS faculty member and served as the Department Chair of the College’s Information Technology Department from 2008 to 2010. In 2013, she became the Program Coordinator for Information Technology of the UE Office of Curriculum Development and Instruction (OCDI). And given the full implementation of the Data Privacy Act, she was appointed in 2017 as UE Manila’s Compliance Officer for Data Privacy, a title she holds to this day.

Prof. Basa attained her Master of Information Technology degree from the Technological University of the Philippines, where she is also working on her Ph.D. in Technology Management degree.

This marks UE’s 12th year of giving free continuing professional development to high school guidance counselors. Expected participants include some 300 HS guidance counselors from the National Capital Region, CAMANAVA, CALABARZON and Region III.
