UE Students and Alumni Compete for PHL in 30th SEA Games!

Good luck to the UE students and alumni who will be competing as part of various Philippine Teams in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games!

The latest, and latest Philippines-hosted, SEAG opens today, November 30, 2019, 4 p.m., at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

There are over 20 Warrior Athletes who will don the Philippine colors throughout the biennial meet.

UE’s champion fencing athletes lead the way with six current students and eight alumni set to compete against their Southeast Asian counterparts. These include Grade 12 student Samantha Kyle Catantan, who had won a silver medal in the Women’s Individual Foil competition in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and more recently, the gold medal in the women’s individual foil competition in last October’s Asian U23 Fencing Championships in Thailand. Joining her are fellow UE students (in alphabetical order) Mickyle Rein Bustos, Christian Jester Concepcion, Queen Dalmacio, Shawn Nicollei Felipe and Reynaldo Perez. The participating UE alumni fencers are led by SEA Games veteran Nathaniel Perez, who had won a silver medal in the Men’s Individual Foil competition in the 2017 SEA Games. He is joined by (in alphabetical order) Eric Brando, Lee Eigran Ergina, Nicole Cortey, Jylyn Nicanor, Michael Nicanor, Wilhelmina Lozada and Justine Gail Tinio.

UE Fencing Coach Rolando Canlas, himself a gold medalist in the 2005 SEA Games that was also held in the Philippines, is the fencing coach of the Philippine delegation. The SEAG 2019 Fencing Tournament will be from December 1 to 10 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Warrior Judokas Bianca Mae Estrella, Jealene Lopez and Jed Pumay, for their part, will be suiting up for the Philippine Judo Team for this SEA Games. The Judo Competition will be on December 4 to 7, 2019 at the Laus Group Event Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

UE Judo Team Coach Rodimple Rodriguez will serve as a supervisor in the Kurash Competition on December 1 and 2, also at the Laus Group Event Center.

UE alumna and UAAP Women’s Volleyball Season 77 Rookie of the Year and Season 81 Best Libero Kathleen Faith Arado will be part of the Philippine Indoor Volleyball Team, which will see action starting December 3 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Another UE alumna, Eunique Chan, is part of the Women’s Basketball Team. They will begin their campaign on December 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Red Tracksters alumnus Richard Salaño will compete in SEA Games 2019’ athletics tournament, specifically in the 10,000-meter run. The athletics tournament will be from December 1 to 9 at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Tarlac.

The country’s netball athlete-participants include former UE Red Warriors Women’s Basketball Team members (in alphabetical order) Katryna Rose Domino, Diana Doqueza and Dianne Ventura. The netball competition began last November 25 and will run until December 2 at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

UE alumnus Mar Vincent Diano is part of the Philippine Football Team, whose journey towards SEAG glory began last November 25 with a draw against Cambodia at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate, Manila.

And former Warrior AJ Lim will play in the name of the country anew but on Philippine soil, via the SEAG Lawn Tennis tournament. The SEAG Lawn Tennis tournament will be on December 1 to 7 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The SEA Games will run until December 11, and will take place in Clark, Subic, Metro Manila and other locations.
