UE Manila Embraces Change for 13th Guidance Week

The UE Guidance, Counseling and Career Services Office (GCCSO) in the University’s Manila Campus will have its 13th Guidance Week Celebration this incoming week, December 2 to 6, 2019, with “GCO is now GCCSO: Embracing the Change of the Future” as overall theme.

The theme emphasizes that change is inevitable, and that the newly renamed GCCSO is ready to face the challenges that come with transformation.

The weeklong celebration will open on December 2 with a simple program, a salu-salo, and fun games. These games are open to kids and kids-at-heart. A weeklong bazaar will also have its opening on this day.

A bully-free seminar for Basic Education students will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 8 a.m. at the Briefing Room. Titled “Proactive Kindness: Handa Ka Na Ba,” it will feature former UE Manila University Student Council President Charlene Kate Gruenberg as speaker. The day will also feature a seminar on “Self-Care is Self-Love” at 1 p.m. at the Briefing Room. There will also be a parenting seminar focusing on bridging the generational differences affecting adolescents at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR) of the Former Dentistry Building.

Those activities will be complemented by an on-the-spot poster-making contest under the Bully-Free Campus Environment Program, also on December 3, 9 a.m. onwards, at the GCCSO Lobby. With “Metamorphosis: The Idea of Random Acts of Kindness” as theme, the contest is a group competition open to groups of UE Manila high school and college students, with a maximum of three members per group. The contestants will be provided with a ¼-size illustration each but will need to bring their own illustration tools. While the judging will be done on December 3 as well, the announcement of the winners will be at the Guidance Week’s activity in the morning of December 5.

The GCCSO will also host a career development seminar on “Gaining Career Confidence” on December 4, 8 a.m., at the Pre-Bar Review Room. There will also have a film showing at the High School Building, and computer games at the GCCSO walkway.

A second bully-free seminar will take place on December 5, 8 a.m. at the Pre-Bar Review Room, this time aimed for UE Manila’s college students. The talk, dubbed “Adulting 101: Embracing Life’s Challenges,” will feature Ms. Maria Francesca Ison as speaker. For Grade 10 students, there will be a Senior High School Orientation at the AVR of the Former Dentistry Building. There will also HIV Testing at the GCCSO for those who are interested.

On the last day of the celebration, December 6, the GCCSO will hold a Peer Interaction at 1 p.m. at the Pre-Bar Review Room, and an LGBT Personality Development and Christmas Party, 1 p.m. at the Multimedia Room.

Everyone in the UE community is welcome to participate in these events.
