UE Dentistry Grads Claim Solo 1st, 2nd, 4th Spots in December 2019 Dentist Licensure Exam!


CONGRATULATIONS to the University of the East College of Dentistry graduates among the Philippines’ latest successful Dentistry Board examinees, led by solo 1st Place examinee Dr. Elyssa Jane Fernandez Tan (passing percentage: 83.03%)!

Dr. Tan is joined in the top 10 by two other UE CDent graduates turned solo-placer topnotchers: Dr. John Michael Briones Panganiban (2nd Place, 82.94%) and Dr. Lady Jessamine Mamacotao Diamel (4th Place, 82.37%)!

The dentist licensure examination was administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on December 3, 4 and 5, 2019, for the written phase, and on December 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2019, for the practical phase.

First-place examinee Dr. Tan earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from UE on April 26, 2019, during the University’s 71st Yearend Commencement Rites.

A University President Scholar during her Pre-Dentistry years, Dr. Tan was also the primary proponent of a scientific paper on “Improved Retention of Composite Bonded to Unetched-ER:YAG Laser Surface-modified Dentin.” Dr. Tan co-authored that paper with six other then fellow UE CDent students and made an oral presentation of it at the 32nd International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Southeast Asia Division Annual Meeting that coincided with the 29th South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) Annual Scientific Meeting, held in Da Nang, Vietnam, on September 13-14, 2018—marking the first time for the UE College of Dentistry to be a presenter institution at an IADR scientific meeting.

Second-place examinee Dr. Panganiban is likewise an April 26, 2019, UE DMD graduate. As a UE student, Dr. Panganiban served as Deputy Auditor of the UE Dental Health Team during the 2nd Semester of School Year 2017-2018. He then became the organization’s Auditor during the first semester of SY 2018-2019. In the following, second semester, Dr. Panganiban served as the Vice President of the Dental Health Team.

Fourth-place examinee Dr. Diamel earned her DMD degree last December 5, at UE’s 21st Midyear Commencement Rites. As a UE student, Dr. Diamel served as the Deputy Treasurer of the UE Dental Health Team during the second semester of SY 2017-2018. She was also a Representative and Patrol of the Clinicians’ Club for SY 2018-2019.

These three UE CDent graduates are among the 540 out of 1,549 who passed the December 2019 exam’s written phase and 541 out of 687 who passed the practical phase. The full list of UE graduates among the country’s newest dentists will be posted soon.

UE CDent graduates also performed well in terms of passing rate on both phases of the exam, scoring 63.33% in the written phase (against the national passing rate of 34.86%) and 92.94% in the practical phase (national passing percentage: 78.75%).

In addition to these three new UE College of Dentistry topnotchers and their fellow UE graduates turned successful licensure examinees, two UE CDent graduates of the College’s Dental Technology NC IV program earned the highest and third-highest scores in the Dental Technologist Licensure Examination, which was conducted by the PRC nationwide on December 10-12, 2019. This led to the UE College of Dentistry’s becoming the top performing school in the exam, earning an overall performance score of 40%.
