In celebration of National Arts Month, everyone in the UE community is invited to watch the UE Office of Cultural Affairs’ (OCA) presentation of “Andres KKK” on Friday, February 28, 2020, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., at the UE Theatre.
“Andres KKK” is an original work by UE OCA Director Generoso A. Caringal, who is also the Director and Choreographer of the UE Silanganan Dance Troupe.

The presentation explores the life of Filipino revolutionary Andres Bonifacio as told though ballet, with emphasis on the time when he founded the Katipunan up to his execution in Cavite. The ballet was choreographed by Dir. Caringal, with music by Mr. Jesse Lucas and libretto by Ms. Lilia Quindoza Santiago. Mr. Ricardo Cruz serves as the set designer, while Mr. Arturo Cruz is the costume designer.

“Andres KKK” was first performed by the Philippine Ballet Theatre, of which Dir. Caringal was an Artistic Director, in 1998, as the Philippines was celebrating its 100th year of independence. It has been performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), as well as in Spain, Morocco, Mexico and the USA. After 20 years of “Andres KKK” being performed at the CCP and in international venues, Dir. Caringal is bringing his original work to the UE Theatre, with the members of the UE Silanganan Dance Troupe performing.

The UE Silanganan Dance Troupe, UE’s resident dance company, recently brought national pride as some members were among the dancers showcased in the Opening Ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games held at the Philippine Arena on November 30, 2019—which coincidentally was Bonifacio Day.

Admission is free to the UE Community, but please secure your tickets at the UE OCA, which is located at the fourth floor of the Dalupan Building.

See you at the UE Theatre, Warriors!
