A research paper by a team representing the UE College of Engineering-Caloocan was recently presented at the 2022 National Midyear Convention and Technical Conference of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE). The conference, whose theme was “Civil Engineering and its Specializations: Responding to our New Normal and Foreseeing our Futures,” was held last June 17 to 18 onsite at SM City General Santos and through the convention’s online platform.
Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr., the Civil Engineering Department Chair of the UE CEng’g Caloocan, led the said five-person UE research team and presented their paper on the team’s behalf as a resource speaker at the PICE convention-conference.
Specifically, Engr. Leron (seen in the photo here) presented a research paper he co-authored with four of his then UE BSCE students, namely Dean Earol P. Cuizon, Jester John C. Loreto, Philip John C. Mercado and Fitzgerald M. Tañala, in cooperation with Engr. John Francis L. Race, Quantity Surveyor of Makati Development Corporation (MDC).
The UE CEng’g Caloocan researchers’ paper, titled “Digital Construction through BIM Systems for Engineering Practices amidst the Pandemic in the Philippines” and which Engr. Leron presented at the conference’s Project Management and Construction Engineering session, was essentially about the current situation of digital construction in the Philippines, focusing on different construction companies in the country.
Engr. Leron—a UE CEng’g Caloocan graduate who earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Cum Laude, in December 2012—will next be a resource speaker of the different Regional Technical Conferences of the PICE around the country under the Project Management and Construction Engineering Specialization.
Aside from being a Department Chair, Engr. Leron is the Adviser of UE Caloocan’s Central Student Council and is the Auditor of PICE’s North Metro Manila Chapter.
A month after this PICE convention-conference came the July 22, 2022, commencement rites featuring the latest batch of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering graduates of UE College of Engineering-Caloocan. Among them were Mr. Cuizon, who also earned the Latin honor of Cum Laude, and Mr. Tañala, who was also conferred his batch’s Leadership Award for Men of UE Caloocan and the UE CEng’g Caloocan’s College Distinguished Graduate Award. Meanwhile, Mr. Loreto and Mr. Mercado are Summer 2022 completers.)
Cheers and kudos, Civil Engineering Warriors!
