Aside from the career professionals molded through the degree programs of our Manila and Caloocan campuses, the University of the East has also been producing Warrior professionals in the medical profession through the years through UE graduates who go on to earn a medical degree from the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMCI).

One such individual is accomplished UE graduate Vergel V. Vergel De Dios Jr., whose latest in a long line of feats is in having passed the pandemic-era Physician Licensure Examination conducted in November 2020.

He is one of 316 newly licensed doctors produced by UERMMMCI, collectively contributing to the Medical Center’s 94.05% passing rate and rank as the sixth top-performing school of the Nov. 2020 Philippine Physician Licensure Examination (PLE). Dr. Vergel De Dios Jr. had earned three distinctions when he graduated from UE Caloocan in April 2014: the degree of Bachelor of Arts, major in Communication Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan in 2014; the College Distinguished Graduate Award; and the title of UE Caloocan Leadership Awardee for Men.

He was the first UE-Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc. scholar of UE CAS Caloocan, and is the College’s first-ever graduate to earn the degree of Doctor of Medicine—an especially considerable achievement in that he was an arts major and not a science-related or allied health degree graduate.

As a UE Caloocan student, Dr. Vergel De Dios was the President of UE Caloocan’s Communication Arts Society (2013-2014) and was part of the team that organized both the Mr. and Ms. UE Caloocan 2014: Lindo Maravhiloso and the 1st Gawad Bagani sa Komunikasyon. After his graduation from UE in 2014, he worked at the ABS-CBN broadcasting company as a production assistant trainee for three months until he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor through UERMMMCI, where he enrolled in 2015.

As a UERMMMCI student, Dr. Vergel De Dios was Secretary-elect of the UERM Medicine Student Council (2016-2017) and one of the 2019 Class Councilors (2017-2018) while being active in other extracurricular activities. After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from UERMMMCI in June 2019, he took his postgraduate internship at Veterans Memorial Medical Center from 2019 to 2020, and went on to be elected Vice President of the VMMC Postgraduate Interns’ Council.
