The University of the East congratulates the UE Caloocan Central Student Council (CSC) of school year 2020-2021 for being awarded as this year’s Gawad Edgar Jopson Most Outstanding Student Council in the Philippines by the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP)! The awarding took place at the 2021 NUSP National Congress on September 19, 2021.
Per the NUSP, the UE Caloocan CSC was recognized for its collective leadership, creativity and resourcefulness, impact on the students and the youth, and social relevance.
The Gawad Edgar Jopson is the only award in the country devoted to recognizing student councils as models of progressive leadership and social responsibility. It also aims to recognize student leadership amid the pandemic, and the efforts of student councils, the premier student centers in schools, in upholding a patriotic, democratic, and student leadership. The award was named after Edgar Jopson, an activist during the Marcos regime who served as the President of the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng Ateneo de Manila, and of the NUSP.
Aside from the Gawad Edgar Jopson, the UE Caloocan CSC also received a special citation for students’ rights and welfare during the Congress.
The UE Caloocan CSC of SY 2020-2021 was composed of President Saida Manap, who is a current 4th-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm) student at the UE College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)-Caloocan and is the UE CSC President for SY 2021-2022; Vice President Samuel Pimping, a current 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student at the UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan and recently a participant of the 2021 Ayala Young Leaders Congress; Secretary John Micah Sanchez, currently a 4th-year BA Comm student; Treasurer Ashley Marie Domingo, a current 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) student of the UE College of Engineering (CEng’g)-Caloocan; Auditor John Lester Pueyo, a 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA) student at the UE CBA Caloocan; Business Manager Exiquel Baclayon, a 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) student at UE CEng’g Caloocan; and Public Relations Officer Xyrille Guevarra, a 3rd Year BSMA student and the current CSC Secretary. The CSC’s faculty adviser last school year as well as for the current one is Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr. of UE CEng’g Caloocan.
