Three students of the University of the East-Caloocan are among the selected delegates to the 2021 Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC)! The congress will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from June 30 to July 31, 2021, via Zoom.
Pamela M. Alviz, Samuel U. Pimping and Chelsy Mae Q. Santos, all incoming 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy students of the UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan, were among the 84 student leaders selected from various schools all over the country based on their leadership track record, strong positive impact, and dedicated involvement in the service of others, their respective organizations, and the community.
From an initial batch of 655 applicants for the congress, the selection was narrowed down to 167 student leaders, before the final 84 delegates were selected.
All three UE student leaders were part of the first batch of Accountancy and Business Management Strand graduates of the UE Basic Education Department-Caloocan Senior High School from April 13, 2018, with Ms. Alviz graduating with High Honors, and Mr. Pimping and Ms. Santos graduating with Honors.
Ms. Alviz has served as the Chairman and Student Representative of the Nagkakaisang Tugon Party Alliance since 2019. She was also elected as Auditor of the UE Caloocan Central Student Council (CSC) for school year 2019-2020, and was the Vice President for Audit of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants-NCR Chapter for Federation Year 2020-2021. She was a Co-Founder of Save a Student-UE Caloocan, wherein she organized Sagip-Kamag-aral, a donation drive for the UE student assistants affected by the pandemic. During her time in the UE SHS, Ms. Alviz was the Auditor of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA)-UE Caloocan SHS Chapter for SY 2017-2018.
Mr. Pimping is a UE-Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc. scholar and served as Vice President of the UE Caloocan CSC for SY 2020-2021. He was also the Treasurer of the UE CBA Caloocan Student Council (BASC) for SY 2019-2020 and the Lord Minister of Press, Brilliance, Excellence and Superiority of the Beta Epsilon Sigma Fraternity (Honors’ Society) for the same school year. In addition, Mr. Pimping was the First-Year Representative of JPIA-UE Caloocan Chapter in SY 2018-2019.
Ms. Santos was the President of the BASC for SY 2020-2021. She was also the President of the Association of Taxation and Law Students (ATLAS) for SY 2019-2020, and the 1st-Year Representative of the same organization for SY 2018-2019. In both school years, ATLAS was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Recognized Student Organizations in UE. During her term as ATLAS President, Ms. Santos was the Outstanding Student Leader Awardee during the UE Caloocan Recognition Day in March 2020. She was also a participant in various youth summits and conferences, including the Global Freedom of Information Youth Conference in 2019 and the Online Filipino Youth Action Summit in 2020.
Established in 1998, the Ayala Young Leaders Congress is designed to build delegates’ confidence and enhance their leadership skills, to nurture commitment to integrity and principled leadership, to foster nationalism and idealism, and to encourage faithful stewardship of their communities and the nation’s future.
Ms. Alviz, Mr. Pimping and Ms. Santos form the third batch of UE students who were selected to participate in the AYLC. In 2015, Ms. Julie Ann B. Hinolan of UE CBA Manila and Mr. Kevin Conrad T. Tansiongco of the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Manila were selected as participants in that year’s AYLC, held on February 10 to 13 in Malvar, Batangas. In 2019, Mr. John Charles V. Andaya of UE CBA Caloocan, Ms. Ira Claire M. Gonzalvo of the UE College of Engineering-Caloocan, Mr. Akim B. Lanto of the UE College of Computer Studies and Systems and Ms. Joelle Marie Y. Tusing of UE CBA Manila formed the second batch of UE participants during that year’s congress, held on February 19 to 22, also in Malvar, Batangas.
