A group of UE College of Engineering-Caloocan graduates and students of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) shone bright at the recently held MIDAS Academic Festival!
Dubbed as the first convention of MIDAS academic users in the Philippines, the inter-school event was hosted by MIDAS IT Philippines and held last October 22, 2022, at Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay, and had participants from 29 universities and colleges nationwide.
The affair was a means to showcase midas Civil, which is “a Bridge Design and Analysis software that combines powerful pre-and post-processing features with an extremely fast solver, which makes bridge modeling and analysis simple, quick, and effective, [along with] several easy parameter modification tools available that can be used for parametric analysis leading to optimized and economical design” per <https://www.midasoft.com/bridge…/civil/products/midascivil>.
Mark Levi C. Espino, who had formally earned his UE BSCE degree last July 22, won as the Champion in the MIDAS Speed Modeling in Building Category, besting peers from 13 other academic institutions in demonstrating their ability to model structures using MIDAS software within a specific time frame. Mentored by Engr. John Rei M. Gomez, a UE Caloocan BSCE faculty member, and the College’s BSCE Department Chairman, Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr., Mr. Espino was awarded a P12,000.00 cash prize and a certificate attesting to his championship.
Meanwhile, the UE Caloocan BSCE team of Mr. Espino and his fellow July 2022 graduates Janna Bañares (who had also earned the Latin honor of Cum Laude) and Israel Jeshurun Sevilla and 4th-year student Neil Stephen Manzo, with Engr. Leron as Adviser, presented their technical paper on “Pamagwalay: Proposed Design of Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for Brgy. Apalit, Floridablanca, Pampanga”. The collective effort won the team a P15,000.00 cash prize, individual certificates, and a congratulatory plaque.
For their part, UE Caloocan BSCE seniors Joe Nicol Intal and Mark Cabral took part in the event’s quiz bee, which saw a proverbial battle of brains while learning functions of the MIDAS software.
