A Math competition veteran, Mr. Cruz started joining contests when he was in grade school. He won the silver medal in the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad in December 2019. He also won the bronze medal in the 2021 PhlMO held from January to February 2021. He then joined the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, also in 2021, where he received a Certificate of Merit. Last December, Mr. Cruz joined the Final Round of Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PhIMO)-Worldwide, where he received a bronze medal and a certificate.

Earlier this year, Mr. Cruz also won a Bronze medal in the PhIMO Heat Round held last April 10, 2022 via Zoom.

Serving as Mr. Cruz’s coach for the competition was UE SHS Caloocan STEM-Math Unit Coordinator James Paul P. Ignacio. Mr. Cruz’s mother Luz, who serves as the Mathematics Department Head of Tinajeros National High School in Malabon City, also provided assistance in coaching Anton. Mrs. Cruz also served as her son’s trainer during his earlier stints in PhIMO.
