University of the East > CFAD > CFAD Conducts Glorious Art Exhibit, Awarding Ceremony This Wednesday!

In line with the 76th Foundation Anniversary of the University of the East, the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD) is conducting a grand, two-in-one program featuring a University Arts Exhibit Opening and an Artistic Excellence Awarding Ceremony this Wednesday morning, September 28, 2022!

Kicking things off at 10 a.m. will be the University Arts Exhibit Opening, to be held at the Chua King Ha Galleries on the fifth floor of UE Caloocan’s Tan Yan Kee Academic Building. The dazzling exhibit will feature a diversity of works of art made through various types of art media by UE CFAD graduates, alumni, faculty members and students!

The exhibit is likewise an indirect celebration of the first anniversary of the said Galleries, which was opened exactly a year earlier, on September 28, 2021, in line with UE’s 75th Foundation Anniversary. Named after the late mother of UE’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Lucio C. Tan, the Chua King Ha Galleries provides the UE CFAD a genuine, permanent art and design space for constant showcasing of a wide variety and collection of works by its graduates and alumni as well as of faculty members and students.

After the formal opening, the proceedings will move to the UE Caloocan Conference Hall, on the 11th floor of the TYK Academic Building, for the Artistic Excellence Awarding Ceremony.

Four accomplished UE CFAD constituents will be awarded: Mr. Clint Rey P. Policarpio, with an Artistic Productivity Recognition; and Mr. Ariosto Dale C. Bagtas, Prof. Richard S. Legaspi and Mr. Michael G. Villagante as Artistic Excellence Awardees.

Mr. Policarpio is a UE CFAD student and a Filipino muralist who reimagines Philippine culture and traditions through his art. Filipino art and culture have had a significant influence on his works of art, where concepts depicting the lives of its people and their surroundings thrive and continue to evolve. He has participated in mural painting events, group exhibitions, and a number of art competitions. He is also a gifted artist with significant contributions and accomplishments in the field of fine arts. Among his feats is ‘Daloy,’ his first one-man exhibition, held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Bulwagang Carlos V. Francisco Lobby, and at the UE Caloocan-Chua King Ha Galleries.

Mr. Bagtas earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the UE CFAD in 2016. He is a visual artist and interior designer who has won numerous art competitions. He favors abstract expression, a non-representational work of art with which he expresses his feelings, emotions and imagination—aiming to share with his art patrons and collectors the transformation of sadness into happiness. His “Filipinism” in art has resulted in grand prize winnings in the GSIS Art Competition and the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) competition.

Prof. Legaspi, a longtime UE CFAD faculty member and accomplished filmmaker, had graduated in 2001 from the then UE College of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Arts and had been recognized by the University as far back as 2000 for his Exemplary Performance in the field of Visual Arts. He is a UNESCO Aschberg Scholar, a documentary filmmaker, and an art professor. As a multidisciplinary artist, his artistic works are more focused on raising awareness and creating space for dialogue on communal issues, responsible societal transformation, and creative activation through contemporary art. He has won national and international awards in film, and is partly known as a mentor on short films with social relevance.

Mr. Villagante graduated from UE in 2001with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising Arts degree. He is a Filipino Asian modern and contemporary artist. His art works connote that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, constantly conveying that there is hope and that problems will be resolved soon enough. He most recently brought honor not just to UE but the entire country after winning First Place—a.k.a. Premio Posto or the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award—in the Painting Category of the 13th Florence Biennale of International Contemporary Art—the formal awarding of which was held on October 31, 2021, at Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy. He had also won grand prizes in GSIS’ and MADE’s art competitions.

Congratulations, UE CFAD and to our multi-accomplished Warrior Artists!
