In a momentous celebration of academic achievement, the University of the East College of Engineering-Caloocan’s Civil Engineering Department and the Association of Civil Engineering Students’ (ACES) UE Caloocan Chapter jointly held its First Hardhatting Ceremony on October 6, 2023.
Gracing the event were distinguished guests and members of the Civil Engineering community, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of aspiring civil engineers who are currently in their fourth year as UE CEng’g Caloocan-Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering students.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of the UE Caloocan Chancellor and former UE CEng’g Caloocan Dean, Dr. Victor R. Macam Jr., joined by the UE CEng’g Caloocan Dean, Dr. Angelita D. Guia; the Associate Dean, Dr. Paraluman G. Sim; and the College Secretary, Engr. Edelito A. Handig—their collective commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the field of civil engineering palpable throughout.
Guided by the wisdom and experience of the ACES Adviser, Engr. John Rei Gomez, and the visionary Chairman of UE CEng’g Cal’s Civil Engineering Department, Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr., the hardhatting ceremony became a platform for mentorship and encouragement for the aspiring engineers.
Adding further depth and inspiration to the occasion was the esteemed guest speaker: the President of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers’ (PICE) North Metro Manila Chapter, Engr. Oliver R. Hernandez, CESE, DPA, a luminary in the field of civil engineering. His insights and motivational words resonated with the audience, reaffirming the importance of dedication, hard work and integrity in the pursuit of engineering excellence.
During the ceremony, each student was adorned with a symbolic hard hat, signifying their embarkation into the practical realm of civil engineering. The gesture represented the transition from theoretical knowledge to real-world application, and was a reminder of the responsibilities that come with being part of this noble profession.
This maiden hardhatting ceremony has set a precedent for future gatherings, emphasizing unity, learning and the spirit of collaboration among the faculty, the distinguished guests, and the vibrant student body. The event stands as a testament to the bright future awaiting the Warrior CE students, guided by the mentorship and wisdom of the academic and industry leaders present.
All told, the UE CEng’g Caloocan CE Department and UE Association of Civil Engineering Students’ Inaugural hardhatting ceremony was a resounding success, setting the stage for a promising future where academic growth and practical application converge to produce exceptional civil engineers.
Kudos, UE College of Engineering-Caloocan, the UE CEng’g Cal. Civil Engineering Department, ACES UE Caloocan Chapter, and to the future Warrior Civil Engineers!
