A team of students of the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program of the UE College of Engineering (CEng’g)-Caloocan secured Second Place in the recently held Executive Challenge: CAD Edition! They were awarded last February 12, during the Civil Engineering Executive Organization’s Engineering Congress 2022.
The team of fourth-year UE CEng’g Cal. student Fitzgerald M. Tañala and third-year students Andrea T. Martin and Lawrence Spencer D. Mangaluz competed with 10 other schools from across the country before emerging in the top three. (The first placer represented the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila, while the third placer hailed from the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges.)
As the competition’s participating teams were tasked to redesign an apartment into a sustainable, pro-environment living area through a three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) model, project portfolio and presentation in a month’s time, the UE Caloocan BSCE team rendered “The Sibol Project,” which had eight green amenities: Plant-E (Likas), Rainwater Harvesting System (Agos), Eco-Laundry (Alon), Installation of Solar Panels (Sinag), Occupancy Sensors (Galaw), Natural Lighting (Liwanag) and Ventilation (Ginhawa), and Waste Management (Dalisay).
Also discussed in their presentation were the utilization of ecobricks, double glazing glass, and PVC pipes.
Serving as the team’s mentor was the UE CEng’g Caloocan Civil Engineering Department Chair, Engr. Eduardo B. Leron Jr.
