University of the East > CFAD > UE CFAD Student Wins Watercolor Category Prize at Latest Shell National Students Art Competition!

The University of the East congratulates UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD) student Elaiza B. Judilla for earning Third Place in the Watercolor Category of Pilipinas Shell’s most recent National Students Art Competition (NSAC) for her work titled “Progresibong Papel ng Pagkatao”! The contest’s awarding ceremony was held last December 10, 2021, via Zoom.

Currently a third-year student of the College’s Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting (BFA Painting) degree program, Miss Judilla shares that “Progresibong Papel ng Pagkatao” symbolically depicts the different stages of a person’s life, and that behind every struggle is a lesson we learn to better ourselves in life.

Four other UE CFAD students were also among the finalists in two other categories of the competition.

Jericho Cedric N. Maravilla, a third-year UE Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Visual Communication (BFA VC) student, was a finalist in the Oil/Acrylic Category for his work “May Kislap sa Mga Mata”. Mr. Maravilla was also a finalist in the competition’s Sculpture Category, for his work named “May Layang Lumipad”.

Krista Fe Andrea V. Toledo, also a third-year UE BFA VC student, was also a finalist in the Oil/Acrylic Category for her work “Itong Balota na Lang ang Pag-asa Ko”.

Two other UE BFA students were finalists in the competition’s Sculpture Category: fourth-year BFA VC student Nicole Vera S. Cruz for her “Be Like the Bees” and third-year BFA Painting student Aldrin Dave S. Basister for his “Paglapat ng Pundasyon”.

Now on its 54th year, the Shell National Students Art Competition is one of the country’s longest-running student art competitions, aimed at bringing out the best among Filipino youth through the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and usher them into the local art scene.

This year’s competition theme, “reSTART,” was a collective call to action to inspire the youth to take a stronger role in rebuilding the nation.

This year’s entries numbered more than 1,500, which showed promise of the art scene’s rapid growth and potential.
