The University of the East has struck up a partnership with Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. for UE to be a Huawei ICT Academy, by providing free training to UE faculty members and students on courses relative to information and communications technology (ICT).
Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider best known as one of the world’s top mobile phone makers, has a sustainable education program called the Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy (HAINA), a non-profit partnership program authorizing select universities and colleges to deliver Huawei certification courses to their students—thus helping to fill the need for more ICT professionals worldwide. UE’s becoming a Huawei ICT Academy is an industry-education cooperation project that will enable the University’s professors and students to be part of the ICT talent ecosystem. The partnership provides for comprehensive trainings mainly aimed at effectively filling in the gaps in digital transformation and development at large.
Through this partnership, UE faculty members and students will get to enjoy the privilege of free training in ICT and acquire a globally recognized professional certification. The resulting enhancement of ICT awareness, skills and knowledge of the future talents in the Philippines can further contribute to the great digital transformation nationally and even internationally.
Specifically, UE’s trainings as a Huawei ICT Academy will cover several courses, such as Routing and Switching, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Big Data, the Internet of Things, Storage, Security, WLAN, 5G, and Intelligent Computing.
The University’s status as a Huawei ICT Academy kicked off on May 15, 2021, with the online training of UE College of Engineering-Caloocan faculty members, who will soon be entitled to certification for their selected training courses—ranging from Data Communication to Cloud Computing to Artificial Intelligence—after five consecutive Saturdays’ worth of learning. There are several topics available but a minimum of six participants is required for training on the particular topic/course to commence. After May 2021, the next set of trainings are slated to be held in July 2021, with another due in September 2021.
UE faculty members and students across the University’s Manila and Caloocan Campuses—across all college year levels and even those in senior high school—who are interested to join the Huawei ICT Academy training may contact Dr. Maria Amelia E. Damian, Associate Dean for Computer Studies and Systems of the UE CEng’g Caloocan, by emailing mariaamelia.damian@ue.edu.ph or via tel. nos. 8-367-4572 local 166 or 167 or 8-365-4121 on non-holiday Mondays to Thursdays, within 9 a.m. to 12 noon or within 1 to 3 p.m.
