UE Alumnus and ‘Voice of ABS-CBN’ is Yearend Commencement Rites Speaker

Mr. Peter A. Musngi, Vice President for the Manila Radio Division and Managing Director of ABS-CBN Sports, will be the commencement speaker for the afternoon session of the UE 2012 Yearend Commencement Rites on April 25, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Philippine International Convention Center Plenary Hall.

The afternoon commencement will be for the graduating students of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan, Business Administration-Caloocan, Computer Studies and Systems, Engineering-Caloocan, Engineering-Manila and Fine Arts.

A native of Santiago City, Isabela, Mr. Musngi graduated from the UE College of Business Administration -Manila with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Accounting, in 1972, before passing the certified public accountant board exam in 1973.

His passion, however, had been for radio. As a high school student, Mr. Musngi spent his summer vacations spinning for a radio station where a relative was the manager. His accounting degree notwithstanding, he found himself working as a disc jockey, voiceover announcer, production chief, programming director, rising to station manager and eventually his current VP position in ABS-CBN.

As the Vice President of the ABS-CBN’s Manila Radio Division, Mr. Musngi oversees the day-to-day operations of two of Metro Manila’s leading radio stations: AM station DZMM and FM station DWRR.

Mr. Musngi is also the brains behind DZMM Teleradyo, a marriage of radio and television wherein DZMM’s on-air radio broadcasters are seen on Skycable, along with the pertinent headlines of the day. Of late, DZMM Teleradyo is the highest-rating cable news channel in the Philippines, even higher than CNN, BBC and Bloomberg.

He is also best known as the voice of ABS-CBN, lending his distinctive vocal to the network’s numerous plugs and commercials in Filipino and English alike.

Given his career dedication, Mr. Musngi has received several accolades from various award-giving bodies, such as the KBP Golden Dove Awards, Gawad Tanglaw, UP Gandingan and the Rotary Club of Manila. He was recognized as one of the UE Diamond Jubilee Alumni Achievers when the University celebrated its 60th Foundation Anniversary in 2006. More recently, he was the lone media executive recognized in the 2011 Communication Excellence in Organizations Awards by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines last June 2011.

UE is a great school Im happy that I am a product of it, but with your LATIN honors qualifications… its a bit unfair, my brother should be a magna cumlaude since he ave 1.36 but he was not given that title since he exceeded the required semester.. yah its rules but I HOPE IT APPLIES TO ALL, I know a cumlaude last April 2007 who doesn’t deserve it., maybe she is since she is a daughter of UE prof also.
