The University of the East, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Xiamen, presents “The Beauty of Fujian (through Filipino Eyes),” a photo exhibit showcasing firsthand impressions of different idyllic and panoramic locations and scenes in Fujian Province, China.

The 40 featured photos are by four members of Foto Grupo, a group of Filipino photo hobbyists based in Fujian: Dan Osillos, Cocoy DeClaro, Dixx Gatpo and Bong Antivola.

This Philippine-Fujian connection is symbolic, considering that countless Filipinos per se have ancestral roots in Fujian. For one thing, the ancestry of the national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, can be traced to Fujian, which is now home to the largest Rizal Park in the world, a five-hectare expanse with its own Rizal monument towering at 18.61 meters high―the height a nod to Dr. Rizal’s birth year.

“The Beauty of Fujian” had premiered publicly at a shopping mall in Xiamen in March 2017, followed by its Philippine debut at the lobby of the Department of Foreign Affairs headquarters last May 30 to June 6. This stop at the University of the East, which runs from October 9 to 16, 2017, at the Dalupan Lobby in UE Manila, marks the first time ever for the exhibit to be staged in an academic institution in the Philippines or anywhere else.

This special photography exhibit forms part of the pioneering initiative of Philippine-Fujian Week of PCG Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, under the PCG Xiamen’s economic and cultural diplomacy program for 2017 and beyond. This is aimed at further enhancing friendship, understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian on one hand, and on the other between the Philippines and China.

Everyone in the UE community is invited to check out the exhibit within this Monday, October 9, 2017 (after the 10 a.m. opening ceremony), up to October 16, 2017. Thank you.
