Leading the pack is UE’s Girls’ Judo Team, which was declared the Champion of the UAAP Season 80 Girls’ Judo Tournament—an amazing feat since this marks the first time for UE to win in the UAAP Judo Tournament and the first time the University fielded a girls’ judo team in the tournament!

The debuting Warrior Girl Judokas won nine medals overall: four gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Winning gold medals were Leah Jane Lopez (under 44 kgs. Category), Danica Faith Barela (under 48 kgs.), Angelica Gutang (under 57 kgs.) and Remianne Pangilinan (under 63 kgs.).

The UE Red Warriors Judo Team is under Coach Rodimple Rodriguez, with UE Manila ESLS Guidance Counselor Dianne Rodriguez and Ms. Sandra Faye Vasquez as Assistant Coaches.

Coach Rodriguez says that winning the championship in the girls’ division is overwhelming, for him and the whole team. It gave them the boost they needed to power through the rest of the competition. The Girls’ Team also posed a challenge to the other Warrior Judo teams to equal, if not surpass, the Warrior Girl Judokas UAAP Season 80 tournament. He is happy that the other teams rose to the challenge, as the other teams performed better than their previous UAAP outings.

The Judokas are now preparing for UAAP 81, with Coach Rodriguez ecstatic that the future looks bright for the Warrior Judokas. Their recent win has given them a boost in their recruitment for UE’s judo teams. He feels confident that the Girls’ Judo Team’s championship, will compel the entire Warrior Judo Team to be better in the upcoming season.

Congratulations, Warrior Judokas! Go fight, Red and White! GO FIGHT, RED AND WHITE!
