UE’s UAAP Season 81 championship haul has officially begun, thanks to the UE Red Warriors Boys’ and Girls’ Table Tennis Teams, who successfully secured their respective championships in the UAAP 81 Juniors’ Table Tennis Tournament last October 15, 2018 at the UP College of Human Kinetics Gym in Diliman, Quezon City.

This recent title is UE’s 15th UAAP Juniors Table Tennis title, and 16th overall UAAP Table Tennis Championship title. It also marks the Warrior Table Tennis Players’ podium comeback after two years. The UE Red Warriors Girls’ Table Tennis Team made their last UAAP Finals appearance in 2016, during UAAP 79, while the Juniors’ Table Tennis Team last secured the championship in 2015’s UAAP 78.

The UE Girls’ Table Tennis Team triumphed over an undefeated De La Salle Zobel Table Tennis Team, winning two games in a best of three series. The DLSZ team, which swept through the elimination round to earn a place in the finals, were favored to win the championship, and had two foreign players in their roster. The Warrior Table Tennis Players shocked their DLSZ counterparts by winning the first game, 3-0, and continued their dominance of the match to win the second game, 3-2, and win the title.

The Boys’ Table Tennis Team entered the final four in fourth place, and had to win five games in a stepladder format in order to win the championship. They focused one game at a time, eliminating third place contender De La Salle Zobel, 3-2, last October 13. They then faced second placer National University, who held a twice-to-beat advantage, and disposed of them, 3-2, 3-2, to face the University of Santo Tomas in the Championship. They swept UST in two games, 3-1, and 3-0, winning for Lualhati the Boys’ Table Tennis Tournament Championship.

The Warrior Table Tennis Players also took home individual awards, with UE Manila Grade 11 ABM student Anna Sophia Fabregar and Grade 11 ABM student Bill Christian Perez, also from UE Manila, bringing home the Most Valuable Player award in girls’ and boys’ tournaments, respectively.

The UE Red Warriors Men’s Table Tennis Team finished the UAAP Men’s Table Tennis tournament in 6th place, while the UE Women’s Table Tennis Team were 5th place in the UAAP Women’s Table Tennis tournament.

The UE Red Warriors Table Tennis Teams are under the mentorship of Coach Rogelio Ponte, with Xydhe Kim Ramos as Assistant Coach and France Mendoza as Trainer.

Congratulations, Warrior Table Tennis Players! Go Fight, Red and White! GO FIGHT RED AND WHITE!
