Longtime Libraries Department Officer Passes Away

Mrs. Flordelina Angala Manzalay, a UE graduate and longtime employee under the University’s Department of Libraries, passed away this Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019. She was 64.

Mrs. Manzalay was in active service at the time of her passing, having been an Assistant Director of the Department for UE Caloocan since October 23, 2009, or nearly a full decade this year.

She had been the Department of Libraries Assistant Director in UE Manila from October 1, 2004, prior to her UE Caloocan assignment, and was Officer in Charge of the Department for UE Manila and UE Caloocan on January 18 to February 15 in 2010.

The young Lina, a native of Culao, Claveria in Cagayan Province, was a UE Manila student, who went on to earn her degree of Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Library Science, from the UE College of Education in 1979. Long before her graduation, she was a working scholar for the UE Department of Libraries since 1977. In October 2, 1978, she became a regular staffer of the Department as Clerk I.

From there, Mrs. Manzalay handled a variety of positions and areas for the Department, including as Junior Cataloguer, Periodicals Section Head and, by April 29, 1997, the sixth Librarian of the UE College of Law Library.

She marked her four decades of work for UE as one of the nine Service Awardees for 40 years of service to the University on September 26, 2018, at the Conference Hall, on the occasion of UE’s 72nd Foundation Anniversary.

Prior to this she had been awarded as UE’s Model Rank-and-File Employee in 1999, and it was during her stint as Law Librarian that the UE College of Law Library was given the Model Centennial Law Library Award, in 2001.

Mrs. Manzalay is survived by Mr. Rodrigo F. Manzalay, the now retired Superintendent of the Environmental Services Office in UE Caloocan, their three children, and other immediate relatives.

Her remains lie in state at the Paket Santiago Funeral Homes Inc. on Marcos Highway in Antipolo City, Rizal. She will be laid to rest on on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Heaven’s Gate Memorial Gardens at Cogeo Town Plaza on Marcos Highway in Antipolo, after the 8 a.m. Mass at Paket.

Thank you so much for your loyalty, service and spirit, Warrior Librarian Flordelina A. Manzalay! You and your contributions and work for the University in general and the Department of Libraries in particular will be constantly remembered.
