INT'L CONFERENCE CALLS FOR PAPERS ON SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE RESEARCH

The Philippines’ University of the East, through the UE College of Business Administration-Caloocan, is teaming up anew with Surabaya, Indonesia-based Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi (STIE) Mahardhika, and the UE College of Business Administration-Manila for the newest, seventh edition of the international research conference on Advances in Sustainable Enterprise Research (ASER)!

ASER 2026, whose theme is “From Awareness to Action: Transforming Sustainable Consumption and Production in Asia’s Emerging Economies,” will gather professionals, academics, business people, and researchers who will share their research outputs from the scientific community in the fields of business, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and financial literacy.

The conference’s ultimate goal is to organize and network participants from various institutions and countries to advance the field of sustainable business that can be pursued locally and internationally. Delegates from Southeast Asia and other Asian countries are expected to participate.

The ASER 2026 research topics for submission are divided into four tracks:

Track 1: Consumer Behavior and Psychographic Segmentation
• Cultural drivers of sustainable consumption
• Health vs. environmental motivations
• Regional case studies (e.g., Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines)

Track 2: Sustainable Production and Circular Economy
• Innovations in agriculture, fashion, and packaging
• Metrics for sustainability impact
• Inclusive business models and value chains

Track 3: Curriculum Reform and Pedagogical Innovation
• Integrating SCP into higher education
• Open access resources and activity design
• Future-ready learning for business and policy students

Track 4: Policy, Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
• ASEAN SCP frameworks and national strategies
• Public-private partnerships
• Youth and community-led initiatives

The ASER 2026 Congress organizers are calling for papers from among academics and researchers within and outside UE, its local and international academic partners, academicians and researchers from other higher education institutions, and research-oriented members and constituents of professional organizations such as the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), the government, and UE alumni, such as through the UE CBA Caloocan Alumni Association, Inc.

Submissions must be in by June 2, 2026.

The abstract guidelines:
1. The presentation may be submitted individually or collaboratively by a group of authors.
2. Submissions may include ongoing research, conceptual studies, preliminary findings, thesis or dissertation proposals, research-in-progress papers
3. The submission should clearly present the research background or issue, objectives or research direction, theoretical or conceptual framework, methodology or planned approach, preliminary findings, and expected contribution, or discussion points
4. The abstract should:be written in English, not exceed 300 words, include keywords and use the APA or Harvard referencing style

5. Author information must be included:
a. full name
b. institution / affiliation
c. email address
d. contact

6. The abstract document should be submitted in:
a. MS Word format (.doc/.docx)
b. Arial 10 pt for content
c. 12 pt bold for title
d. 10 pt bold for author names
e.. All abstracts, presentation slides, and presentation materials must be prepared and
presented in English as ASER is an international conference.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER *AND* STUDENT: FENCING MVP IS UAAP 88 ATHLETE-SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR

Red-and-white congratulations many times over to University of the East college student Shawn Nicollei S. Felipe following a trail of school year 2025-2026 victories that recently culminated in him being awarded at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines' Season 88 closing ceremonies as an Athlete-Scholar of the Year!

A graduating Bachelor of Science in Psychology senior of the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Manila, Mr. Felipe attained several feats in the men's fencing tournament of UAAP 88, including medals that contributed to the 12-peat UAAP championship of the UE Red Warriors Men's Fencing Team and him earning the UAAP Most Valuable Player title for the fifth time.

Besides those, he likewise saw action in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, earning a bronze medal in the international sporting competition held in December 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

On top of all that, Mr. Felipe attained high grades, earning an overall average of 1.6 in SY 2025-2026.

Of his triumphs as a UE student-athlete, Mr. Felipe attests that "Behind every success is years of hard work and quiet waiting." He says he has always aimed to excel in sports and in his studies alike. "Bilang athlete, importante po sa akin na hindi lang katawan at skills ang nade-develop, kundi pati isip at disiplina. Gusto ko pong patunayan na kayang pagsabayin ang sports at academics dahil pareho itong makakatulong sa paghubog ng pagkatao't mga pangarap sa buhay."

FIRST-CLASS ATHLETE *AND* STUDENT: CHAMPION JUNIOR FENCER IS UAAP ATHLETE-SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR

Red-and-white congrats to University of the East junior high school student Yuna Samuelle L. Canlas for being among the few to have been awarded as University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 88 Athlete-Scholar of the Year!

A JHS-Grade 8 student of the UE Basic Education Department-Manila this past school year, SY 2025-2026, Miss Canlas had, among other feats, won the girls' fencing foil competition gold medal in the recently concluded 88th season of the country's premier amateur sports league.

She achieved this while being a diligent Grade 8 student, finishing the school year with a high average of 96.

When asked for the secret to her success, Miss Canlas evinced wisdom that belies her relative youth. On being a distinguished athlete-scholar, she credits time management, discipline and prioritization, relating as well that "Hindi po madaling pagsabayin ang pag-aaral at training, pero lagi kong iniisip na bawat hirap at sakripisyo ay may kapalit na magandang resulta. Natutunan kong maging consistent at gawin ang best ko araw-araw, kahit pagod o nahihirapan na."

She also asserts being motivated by the Bible verse from Matthew 5:16: "Let your light shine before others." That is, "Ipinapaalala po nito na gamitin ko ang talento, sipag, at kakayahan hindi lang para sa sarili kundi para maging inspirasyon din sa ibang tao."

Former Longtime UE Academic Worker Passes Away

The University of the East community condoles still with the family of the late Priscilla Mayo Mancilla, a longtime academic employee of UE’s Manila Campus, who passed away last April 27, 2026. She was 71.

Born on August 13, 1954 in San Fernando, La Union, Mrs. Mancilla dedicated her entire career to being a UE employee.

Even before earning her then UE Associate in Secretarial Administration certificate in 1974 and her degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Banking and Finance from the UE College of Business Administration-Manila following the completion of her college studies in May 1977, she had worked for the University, initially as an emergency helper of the then Department of Physical Education from June 13 to July 31, 1973.

Shortly before her college graduation, the young Precy became a temporary clerk stenographer for the then Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (now the Student Affairs Office-Manila) from June 21 to 30, 1976, her “temporary” designation becoming full-fledged starting July 1, 1976, and going on all the way to October 19, 1994.

Mrs. Mancilla moved on to becoming Clerk II for the Department of Registration and Records Management (DRRM, a.k.a. the Registrar’s office), a position she held from October 20, 1994, to December 2, 1996, until settling at the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Manila. At the UE CAS Mla., she was Academic Records Evaluator I from December 3, 1996, all the way to June 25, 2006, then got appointed Academic Records Evaluator II of the College, a position she held from June 26, 2006, until her optional retirement effective September 1, 2018.

Given her four-decade stint as a UE worker, Mrs. Mancilla got recognized as a University Service Awardee five times, the most recent one being in September 2016, during the University’s 70th Foundation Anniversary as one of the then eight awardees for 40 years of service to UE.

Moreover, she was the University's Model Rank-and-File Employee of the Year in 1992, which was conferred upon her during the University Service Awards held on September 17 that year, in line with UE's 46th Foundation Anniversary.

As her grandson Jarod Mancilla put it on a post on Facebook, “To many, [Mrs. Mancilla] was a friend, a neighbor, and a light in the community. To us, she was the heart of our home. We are so grateful for the years we spent in her company and the lessons she taught us about love and resilience.”

Conversely, she had also been a friend and a mother figure to many in the UE Manila community, be it among the workforce or among the student body.

Mrs. Mancilla was laid to rest in the afternoon of May 3, 2026 (Sunday), at the Garden of Gethsemane Memorial Park in Antipolo City.

TOP PERFORMING DENTAL SCHOOL | UE COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY SCORES 100% LICENSURE EXAM PASSING RATE!

Kudos to the UE College of Dentistry for once again emerging as the highest-ranking dental school school in the Dentist Licensure Exam!

The latest DLE was held on May 4 to 6 (Theoretical Phase), and May 11 to 14, 2026 (Practical Phase).

UE CDent ranked first among dental schools that fielded 50 or more examinees, attaining at least 80% as the overall passing percentage:

A total of 56 out of 56 UE Doctor of Dental Medicine graduates passed the exam, making for a 100% passing percentage.

A total of 34 dental schools nationwide were represented by the 896 examinees across the country that took the May 2026 DLE as administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Dentistry. Of those examinees, 796 passed the exam, making for a national overall passing percentage of 88.84%.
