CHAMPION WARRIORS | UE CCSS Students Win Interschool 24-hour Hackathon!
University of the East College of Computer Studies and Systems (UE CCSS) students have once again demonstrated their innovation and technical excellence, winning the top honors in an interschool hackathon!
This feat came via the recently held Blue Hacks 2026, a 24-hour hackathon organized by the Computer Society of Ateneo de Manila University. The event brought together 25 teams representing various higher education institutions, including Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Bulacan State University, Mapรบa University, and De La Salle University, fostering a competitive and dynamic environment for innovation.
Representing UE Manila were three CCSS-based teams: Chekken, composed of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) students John Adrian Cruz, Racy Anne Dumable, and Fil Edward Buitizon; Room for Initiative, composed of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students Krishia Janella Sula and Micoh Villar, and Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS) student Jan Carlo Ramos; and The Walking Dev, composed of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) students Jamie Noreen Ferrer, John Mark Gatche, and Dwyght Dani V. Dela Cruz.
Among the participating teams, The Walking Dev was awarded First Place in recognition of their outstanding concept, execution and presentation. Their project, a commuter-focused digital solution, aims to enhance everyday mobility experiences by providing practical and user-centered features for navigating urban environments. Designed with real-world commuters in mind, the project reflects a strong balance between innovation, usability and social relevance.
Beyond the competition, Blue Hacks 2026 provided a meaningful platform for collaboration, learning, and creativity. Despite the demands of the 24-hour challenge, the event fostered a supportive and engaging atmosphere.
The achievement of The Walking Dev, along with the active participation of all UE teams, underscores the University of the Eastโs commitment to developing innovative, collaborative, and globally competitive graduates in the field of information technology.
