AGRI-KULTURA: A Sustainable Farm Providing Jobs for Locals and an Open Space for Visitors
Many local farmers living in remote areas of Camarines Norte do not have a stable
income due to their location. People are often left with two difficult choices: to relocate and find jobs just to survive, or to endure hunger due to an inadequate food supply. Many underage children belonging to these families are forced to do dangerous work instead of studying in school, simply to earn money for basic necessities. In addition, the Bicol Region is prone to typhoons, making it even more difficult for families to survive without a stable source of income.
The reason why this situation continues is the presence of low to no income opportunities. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is little to no access to stable jobs and essential resources. As a result, families see no clear future, and children without financial support are forced into labor at a very young age. No child should ever experience this kind of situation, especially during the early stages of life.
One possible solution is the creation of a community working place where people can gather, work, and socialize every day. This promotes a simple way of living that still adapts to modern innovation. The proposal includes a sustainable farm for workers and an open space for visitors, supporting education, production, and community development. This project is not only for labor, but a place where people can connect, learn, experience, and earn.
Using the environment around the site and taking advantage of its natural features is crucial. This allows workers, visitors, and livestock to efficiently live, work, and enjoy the entire area. Open structures, proper ventilation, natural lighting, and secure spaces are applied while still acknowledging future-forward thinking and resilience against possible disasters.
The design prioritizes the needs of local communities, integrating income-generating activities with education and social interaction It provides opportunities for families to earn and support their daily needs. By integrating work opportunities with learning experiences, the project enhances skill development. Inviting visitors into the area also allows the space to become a platform for cultural exchange, strengthening social ties and fostering community pride.
By adapting modern design principles, the project also incorporates sustainability. Materials that may harm the environment are minimized, allowing the design to restore rather than damage its surroundings. Using concrete provides an affordable and durable method of construction, creating structures that can last for decades and remain functional for future generations, while innovations such as harnessing spring water and utilizing solar panels create a place where energy is produced and consumed wisely by its users. These adaptive design strategies allow the structures and spaces to function efficiently throughout the area, making them smart, resilient, and long-lasting for the community. ... See MoreSee Less
