The University of the East expresses deepest compassion and profound concern over the death of the 24-year-old John Matthew Salilig, a student of Adamson University, due to hazing. The University strongly condemns the hazing incident, and any form of violence committed inside or outside the school premises.
Further, the University of the East strictly implements the Anti-Hazing Act prohibiting the conduct of hazing or any initiation rites that results in physical or psychological suffering, harm or injury inflicted to students associated with fraternities, sororities, and other similar organizations. The University shall widely disseminate its policies relative to hazing and will impose the necessary sanctions for violations of these policies.
We deeply sympathize with the family of the student during this difficult time, and we pray that they be accorded the justice they deserve.
