The University of the East will be hosting ‘TRUE ICON: Talks, Research, Understanding and Exchange International Conference’, which will be held on November 6, 2024 (Wednesday), from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at UE Caloocan.
UE has organized and is hosting this international conference through its Colleges of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan and -Manila, Colleges of Business Administration-Caloocan and -Manila, Colleges of Engineering-Caloocan and -Manila, and College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design, Graduate School, Office of Extension and Community Outreach-Caloocan and -Manila, and Office of Research Coordination. This UE undertaking is in cooperation primarily with Thailand’s Maejo University, Japan’s Soka University, Indonesia’s Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM) and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), and Cambodia’s University of Kratie.
TRUE ICON will feature talks by prestigious researchers from different parts of the world shedding understanding in light of their respective expertise, with the aim of seeing an exchange of calls to action and reactions from the audience.
The conference was conceived at gathering interested researchers, experts, educators, and students from all over the country and the world to establish an avenue for research presentation, discussion, and publication.
This international conference covers these disciplines:
1. Accountancy and Business Administration
2. Applied Linguistics
3. Biological, Earth, Environmental, and Natural Sciences
4. Computer and Information Technology
5. Education
6. Engineering
7. Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design
8. Health and other Medical Sciences
9. Philosophy, Humanities, and Social Sciences
10. Tourism
The conference objectives are the following:
1. To gather local and international studies qualified under the disciplines enumerated above unified by one timely theme to be presented through a conference;
2. To market the University of the East within the country;
3. To promote the University of the East in the international level;
4. To strengthen ties with other educational institutions abroad to be tagged as co-convenors;
5. To generate publications; and
6. To later establish an organization that would uphold the aims of international conference.
The TRUE ICON 2024 theme is “Adapting to the Changing Landscape toward the Post-Pandemic Era”. This theme is meant to encompass a wide range of interconnected scopes, highlighting the resilience, innovation, and transformation of societies in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. It calls for a renewed commitment on many aspects of life and the need for continuous adaptation and forward thinking, to build a more sustainable and inclusive future in the aftermath of the global health crisis.
The pandemic sparked a profound transformation in many disciplines and, thus, will cover timely subjects including the following, but not limited to:
• Artificial Intelligence and Technological Advancement
• Social and Economic Implications to the Labor Force
• Hybrid Learning (Education)
• Global Pandemic and Covid-19
• The Entertainment Industry
• The Power of Social Media
• Digital Media
• Environmental Issues
The morning session of TRUE ICON will be held at the Multipurpose Hall or MPH 3 of the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Building.
The welcome message by UE President and Chief Academic Officer Zosimo M. Battad will be followed by the keynote talk by Dr. Bert J. Tuga, the President of Philippine Normal University.
Five consecutive plenary talks will follow, to be delivered by:
1. Dr. Ichiro Sugimoto, the Dean of the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Soka University
2. Dr. Daniel Susilo of Universitas Bunda Mulia (online)
3. Dr. Liza G. Battad, Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center
4. Dr. Lydia R. Leonardo, the Director of the UE Office of Research Coordination, and
5. Dr. Rex P. Bringula of the UE College of Computer Studies and Systems
TRUE ICON’s morning session will be capped by the closing remarks to be delivered by Dr. Felipe R. Alcala Jr., the UE CAS Caloocan College Secretary who is the Chair of the 2024 conference’s organizing committee.
The conference’s afternoon session will be held at the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building, starting with parallel, concurrent research paper presentations on the building’s eighth and ninth floors. This will be followed by an understanding-and-exchange session by way of artistic and creative exhibitions at the Chua King Ha Galleries, on the fifth floor of the TYK Academic Building.
The 15-member TRUE ICON organizing committee is chaired by UE CAS Caloocan Dean Michelle H. Concepcion, with UE Caloocan Chancellor Victor R. Macam Jr. as Adviser.
