An array of renowned and esteemed alumni of what is now the University of the East-College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD) will hold a grand art exhibition dubbed ‘UE Fine Artists @ 60’, which will open on March 11, 2025, 6 p.m. at the Art Center on the fourth floor of Building A of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
The event is a collaboration of the UE Alumni Association, Inc. (UEAAI) and Kambal Gallery, and is being held as part of a yearlong 60th-anniversary celebration of UE CFAD. Originally the UE School of Music and Arts on Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City-based when it was opened on August 3, 1964, as part of UE’s then Research Center for Sciences, Humanities and Culture, the UE CFAD has since grown into one of the top art schools not just in Camanava but Metro Manila.
For this commemorative exhibit, select UE SMA/CFAD alumni will pay tribute to their alma mater and its living legacy of producing highly accomplished and award-winning students, artists and career professionals. Graduates of the school emerge as artists with a passion for transforming vision: focusing on fundamental arts, embracing innovation and technology, demonstrating artistic mastery, and contributing to modern society.
The exhibit will showcase the achievements of the UE CFAD for the past six decades through works by some of the finest visual artists in the Philippines, whose creations range from paintings to sculptures using various mediums and techniques. To be featured are individual works by the following UE alumni (in alphabetical order): Rex Dasig Aguilar, Gus Albor, Fernando Antimanο, Ed Arcilla, Mark Angelo Argarin, Aris Bagtas, Dale Bagtas, John Wesley Bautista, Jose Bautista, Lander Blanza, Carlos Cadid, Jonet Carpio, Fernando Catague, Gil Corcuera, Del Garcia, Renato Habulan, Kel Hilario, Vito Juria, Lilia Lao, Ruelson Bruce Lee, Lao Lianben, Red Mansueto, Lei Manto, Norman Montifar, Nikko Pelaez, Oscar Redrico, Omi Reyes, Ronaldo Ruiz, Leonides Santos III, Fernando Sena, Reynaldo Tambong, Tito Rolly, Kristoffer Tolentino, Michael Villagante, Oca Villamiel, Gene Artango Villasper, Kirby Wang and Sonny Yñiguez.
The organizers, led by UEAAI President and UE SMA graduate Edgar Arcilla, took a year of planning to put together a kaleidoscope and tapestry of works of several alumni artists along with works by pioneering professors: National Artist Abdulmari Imao, Director Teofilo Montifar, Dean Florencio Concepcion, and Professors Ros Arcilla, Remy Boquiren, Dir. Pablo Victoria and Romi Necie Mananquil—all of whom were very strong influences in molding the talents of the artists, and driving forces in the successes of the College’s faculty.
This ’UE Fine Arts @ 60’ exhibition, admission to which is free and will be open daily up to March 22, was also featured in The Manila Times: https://www.manilatimes.net/…/ue-holds-fine…/2063228
