The indomitable UE Red Warriors Fencing Teams successfully defended their championship dynasty in UAAP fencing as the entire team copped all four championships in the recently concluded UAAP Season 86 Fencing Tournaments!
This marks the Warrior Fencers’ third consecutive UAAP championships sweep and 10th overall since 2012.
The UAAP 86 fencing tournaments were held from March 14 to 17, 2024, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Sampaloc, Manila.
The latest series of tournaments saw the UE Red Warrior Fencers emerge as the three-time Champion in the Women’s Tournament, the ’10-peat’ Champion in the Men’s Tournament, the ’12-peat’ Champion in the Boys’ Tournament, and the ’11-peaters’ in the Girls’ Tournament.
The teams won 28 medals in total: 15 gold, 11 silver and two bronze medals.
The UE Women’s Fencing Team won a total of six medals: three gold, one silver and one bronze.
Warrior Fencer Queen Denise Dalmacio was adjudged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), having won a gold medal in Individual Sabre, Team Sabre and Team Epee. This is Miss Dalmacio’s third consecutive MVP award. Shareen Angel Francess Beltran was awarded the tournament’s Rookie of the Year.
The other gold medalists among the Lady Warrior Fencers were the group of Miss Dalmacio, Jaymi Delos Santos, Andrea Jenelle Matias and Eytria Olarte in Team Sabre; and Miss Delos Santos, Miss Matias, Kristal Kyla Liao, and Cyrylle Anne Schofield in Team Epee.
Winning silver medals were Miss Olarte in Individual Foil, and the team of Miss Dalmacio, Miss Matias and Shareen Angel Francess Beltran in Team Sabre, while Miss Delos Santos won a bronze medal in Individual Epee.
The Men’s Team amassed five medals—three gold and two silver—in their tournament.
Shawn Nicollei Felipe won the Most Valuable Player award, his second consecutive MVP title. He won gold medals in Individual Foil, Team Foil and Team Epee. Aurell Florence Obzunar, for his part, was awarded as the tournament’s Rookie of the Year.
Also winning gold medals were the team of Shawn Nicollei Felipe, Reynaldo Perez Jr., Ramil Encelan Jr., and Aurell Florence Obzunar in Team Epee; and Shawn Nicollei Felipe, Aurell Florence Obzunar, Mr. Perez and Robert Ygnatius Cabaero in Team Foil.
Winning silver medals were Mr. Cabaero in Individual Foil and Aurell Florence Obzunar in Individual Epee.
The UE Boys’ Fencing Team took home eight medals: five gold and three silver.
Taking home the Most Valuable Player award for the tournament was UE fencer Louis Marti Shoemaker, who won the gold medal in Individual Foil, Team Foil, and Team Epee.
Also winning gold medals were Charles Eduard Babatio in Individual Sabre; the team of Mr. Shoemaker, Aljor Contado, Von Eubert Gale, and Ruzel Gallano in Team Epee; Mr. Babatio, Christian Anthony Concepcion, Khiane Nash Felipe and Brynt Ember Gale in Team Sabre; and Mr. Shoemaker, Brynt Ember Gale, James Limuel Lim, and Frances Avit Obzunar in Team Foil.
Winning silver medals were Von Eubert Gale in Individual Epee, Khian Nash Felipe in Individual Sabre and Mr. Lim in Individual Foil.
The Girls’ Team won nine medals: four gold, four silver and one bronze.
Sophia Shekinah Catantan took home her second consecutive Most Valuable Player plum of the girls’ tournament. She won a gold medal in Individual Foil and Individual Sabre, and silver medals in Team Foil and Team Sabre.
Winning gold medals as well were Aubrey Paulean Fernandez in Individual Epee and the team of Miss Fernandez, Nina Dominique Canlas, Julianna Jimenez and Irish Manaois in Team Epee.
Taking home silver medals were Adrienne Lising in Individual Sabre; Nina Dominique Canlas in Team Epee; the team of Sophia Shekinah Catantan, Miss Fernandez, Willa Liana Galvez and Alyzabeth Leiana Gilbert in Team Foil; and Miss Lising, Nicol Amethyst Canlas, Sophia Shekinah Catantan, and Kirsten Shanelle Catantan in Team Sabre.
Miss Fernandez also won the bronze medal in Individual Foil.
The massively victorious UE Red Warriors Fencing Teams’ coaching staff is composed of Head Coach Rolando Canlas Jr., and Coaches Ruferino Endriano, Chester Uy, Lee Eigran Ergina and Christian Canlas.
